The defending All-A State Champion Mustangs completed their first step to their road to defend their championship.

The Mustangs got the first goal 56 seconds into the game on a throw-in when Matt Smith had a great throw that went into the box and found the foot of Joey Hickman who sent a screamer into the net for the very early 1-0 lead. Joey picks up the game winning goal and Matt Smith gets the game winning assist. Then in the 16th minute, Jacob Frommeyer sent a volley into the box to Evan Berkemeyer, Evan fought through the Paris defenders, made a nice turn, and blasted the ball into the net for the Geico Insurance Goal of the Game.

The Mustangs put the icing on the cake when Joey Hickman sent an cross into the box to Nate Miller. Miller then had a brilliant glancing header top corner for the 3-0 lead and we were only in the 29th frame. Coach Goller called off the dogs and allowed many Mustangs to get some minutes in the game.

The defense was spectacular for a second straight game. The defense shut Paris down, as the Greyhounds left the driving and scoring to the Mustangs. Paris had no real chances on offense and couldn’t get by the smothering defense that the Mustangs displayed on the evening.

The Mustangs had 27 shots, 14 on goal. Paris had 4 shots and only 2 on goal both saved by Jeff Paulin. Jeff picks up the shutout for the Mustangs.
