AARON SNYDER: Push out the rain, pour on the heat

One of my favorite rock songs of the early 2000s is “Caught in the Rain” by Revis.

No title fits last Friday night better.

 

Rain doesn’t appear to be a factor tonight, as weather.com prognosticates a 20-percent chance, but if it’s not one thing holding you back, it’s something else, right?

 

Temperatures will likely register in the low- to mid-80s at kickoff. While that probably won’t delay any start times, water intake should be aplenty to avoid overheating and/or dehydration cramps.

Week 2 Picks

Ashland 36, Raceland 28. Rams coach Michael Salmons said running back Kane Snyder burst onto the scene at Putnam Stadium a year ago. Before his 14-carry, 91-yard effort, “nobody had ever heard of him,” Salmons said. Rams coaches had even debated dressing Snyder for junior varsity instead of varsity prior to the big-time performance. As Salmons hopes for another Ram to throw a surprise party, Ashland has plans of hosting its own memorable bash. If the reopening of Putnam Stadium has Tomcat running backs Jake Long and Quinton Baker moving even faster and charging even harder, it’ll spell trouble for Raceland. The Rams lost a heartbreaker last season. They’ll fall again, but not without a fight.

 

Mason County 34, Boyd County 24. With Mason County’s Jake O’Mara battling injury, Bradley Boone stepped in and conducted a nice comeback win for the Royals against Newport. Andrew Kouns led a solid rushing attack for Mason County. As for the Lions, they began running the ball effectively in the second half of their loss to Lawrence County. The Lions will play closer than some might expect, but Mason County probably has the overall edge in talent.
