Jackson County 2014/2015

Featured Replies

Basketball season for 2014/2015 should provide another exciting year. What should we expect from Jackson County. Remember, please be constructive.

Replacing Jordan Fox will be tough for them.

Rough district, as they share it with Clay County and North Laurel.

If both Zach Lawson and Isaiah Collier are back, then they'll have some pieces and are probably going to be a factor in the All A, as I'd imagine that it both the Generals and Williamsburg will be two of the teams that many will pick to come out of the 13th.

Last year, the Generals could score the ball with anyone in the area, but sometimes struggled on the defensive end. The only player listed at Center on last year's roster, Will Neely, has graduated. Last year, two 8th graders dressed varsity in Tanner Harris and Drew Akemon, so their development could be something to keep an eye on.

Given the size of the school, height and depth can sometimes be an issue for them, and the same will probably be true this year, especially when it comes to playing stronger teams from outside the mountains. Regardless, Jackson County is typically a well coached group that plays hard, so anyone taking them lightly come tournament time will be at risk of going home early. In most years, people have a hard time seeing them having the kind of depth they need to string together enough wins to take the region, but they will definitely have the talent to play with and beat anyone on a given night nonetheless and a run like the one Cumberland made in '03 or North Laurel made in '12 wouldn't be entirely out of the question.

Put a gun to my head and tell me I have to pick 3 points to make about how far this team ultimately goes and those would be:

1. Defensive Improvement, 2. Rebounding Ability, 3. Depth Past Collier & Lawson,

Speaking of Fox, does anyone know if he followed through on his commitment to play at Army?
