CANNONSBURG Torrential rains flooded the field at Boyd County High School Friday night and postponed an opening night matchup between Lawrence County and the Lions.

Twenty-four hours later, the scoreboard at Tom Scott Field became flooded by touchdowns.

Bulldogs quarterback Grant Kiser was responsible for four of the game’s 10 total scores as Lawrence County defeated Boyd County, 47-25, on Saturday night.

It was the first start for Kiser under center after spending the last two years in the secondary. The junior conducted the potent offense of the Bulldogs like a seasoned veteran.

Lawrence County coach Joe Cecil was not surprised by the play of his new quarterback.

“Grant is not a first-time player,” Cecil said. “He has played for us for two years. He was my quarterback on the defensive side of the ball. We are not talking about a kid that’s never had any experience. I was very pleased with how he played today.”

Kiser threw three touchdown passes and ran for another. He finished with 137 yards through the air and another 59 yards on the ground.

One of Kiser’s favorite targets was tight end Luke Schaeffer.
