Four-down territory: Making summer football practice pit stops

LLOYD — ARE YOU READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL?

 

The popular Monday night catchphrase filled my room on Tuesday morning as my new alarm sounded off at 7 a.m.

 

I then prepared for my trek through the first official day of football practice.

 

Mother Nature tantalized us with some early fall-like weather with temperatures dipping into the 60s during the morning hours.

 

I filled my Explorer with gas, loaded my own tank with coffee, and began my trip into four-down territory, making stops at Greenup County, Fairview, Raceland and Boyd County.

 

I started my 62-mile journey down U.S. 23 in Lloyd.

Good article. Need more local sports guys doing this very sort of thing, just making a day trip and visiting the area teams.

The Independent does a great job with the local teams, they are an Ashland news paper and are, of course, Ashland heavy, but they do venture out and cover all the area teams, especially the teams that are doing well.

 

And, the Independent's Football Preview is great, I would put it up against any in the state.
