Clark County 5 Bishop Brossart 2 (10th Region Tournament)

Recommended Posts

Lady Stangs played one of their better and most inspired games of the season....leading Clark County 2-1 going into the 6th and squandering a golden scoring opportunity in the bottom of the 5th that could have provided a boost heading into the 6th against the top of Clark's lineup. Clark County was able to get the runners on and get them in during that pivotal inning. Great game on both sides. Congratulations to the Lady Stangs seniors...Shannon Kremer, Jaimie Reis and Allie Anstead. Good luck to Clark County through the rest of the regional.

Was a good game. I was for sure Brossart had them until the momentum shift in the 5th going into 6th.

Runner getting thrown out for Brossart was the swing point and they just couldn't recover.

They played a good game though.

Lot of youth in the Stangs lineup...sophomores at C, CF, 2B, 1B...need to get better offensively and more softball "smarts".

GRC is young too. Lots of Freshmen starting. They started last year as 8th graders I believe. I will post the article on the game when it comes out in the paper today. Not sure there will be pictures, as our papers photographer just retired this week after 27 years.

Prep Softball: Lady Cards rally to beat Bishop Brossart, reach 10th Region semis

SubmittedClark first baseman Kolbi Mitchell connects on a double in the sixth inning that scored two runs in the Lady Cardinals' 5-2 win over Bishop Brossart Monday in the opening round of the 10th Region Tournament at Covington Scott

The George Rogers Clark High School girls softball team advanced to the semifinals of the 10th Region Tournament Monday with a 5-2 triumph over Bishop Brossart at Covington Scott High School.

The Lady Cardinals (27-12) advance to the semifinals set for tonight at Scott High. Clark takes on Nicholas County, which earned a spot in the semifinals with a 9-5 win over Mason County in the first of four games Monday.

The Lady Cardinals trailed 2-1 going into the sixth inning and rallied with three runs on three hits to take the lead for good. Senior Kolbi Mitchell had the big hit in the inning with a two-run double.

Jenna Edwards opened the inning by reaching on an error, Megan Terrell walked and Sydney Anderson singled to single. Mitchell drove in Edwards and Terrell with a single to right, while Melissa Hall’s fly ball to left field scored Anderson to give Clark a 4-2 advantage.

Edwards paced Clark’s offense with three hits, all singles, while Anderson, Mitchell and Hall each had a single. Erin Carrus slapped a double in the top of the seventh that led to another run for the Lady Cards.

Edwards went the distance for Clark in the pitcher’s circle. The junior pitcher scattered six hits, walked two batters and struck out seven. Edwards escaped a threat in the fifth inning after two Lady Mustang batters reached on a pair of singles. Edwards got a key out on a failed sacrifice attempt when Ashley Childress was caught in a rundown between third and home. The next batter popped up to Mitchell to end the inning.

Edwards scored Clark’s first run on a wild pitch in the top of the first inning.

In the only meeting between Clark and Nicholas County this season, the Lady Cards dealt the Lady Bluejackets a 13-2 setback on April 8 in Carlisle.

Oh yeah...taking nothing away from GRC. They are an explosive team and not to be taken lightly.
