Brossart earned the top seed in the 37th District by defeating Campbell County 4-1 on home turf at St. Mary on Monday afternoon. Nate Verst went 6 complete innings, allowing but one infield single, while recording 8 strikeouts. Connor Verst came on in relief in the 7th allowing one run on one hit.

 

The two teams played scoreless baseball through 4 1/2 innings when Brossart erupted for 4 runs in the home half of the fifth to secure the victory. Senior Erik Rieger had the game-winner, a two run double off of the left-centerfield fence. Nate Verst followed up with a one run single. An error by the centerfielder allowed Rieger to score the Mustangs fourth run.

 

Johnny Eblin was the starter and loser for Campbell County. He allowed all four runs before yielding to Brady Sansom who retired the Mustangs in the bottom of the sixth after the first two Mustangs singled.

 

Brossart will now await the winner of the Silver Grove-Calvary game, while the Scott Eagles and the Camels duke it out in a one-done scenerio. Both the district winner and runner-up advance to the 10th Regional TOurnament. The district starts next week at Scott, while the 10th Region Tournament will take place the week of March 26th on the hilltop in Cynthiana at Harrison County High School.
