Scholastic Coach Select-A-Call

Found this cleaning out some football coaching files this weekend. This belonged to my dad. Probably from the late 60s or early 70s. I thought it was cool and the BGPreps crowd would like it.

For each offense or defense, you slide the card and it gives you strengths, weaknesses and how to attack.

Some other cool stuff... mostly from my dad....

Charlie Bradshaw's UK Playbook, Dennis Sexton's playbook from Boyle County, my dad's preseason & regular season practice schedules from his first season at Boyle County, his 5 year plan for Rebel football which included building a city-county stadium(like Hopkinsville & Christian County for Boyle & Danville) on Boyle property near the fairgrounds, and Randy Reese's option playbook from his first run at Paris HS.

The Bradshaw playbook has my Dad's first defense at Boyle. It was a 4-3 and he called it Buckshot's (Underwood) 27. The front was in 2 & 7 techniques is how it got the name.

There are not a lot of things I like about getting old, but this stuff is great to have.

That is some cool stuff. I have never seen that play card before, I wonder how common it was back in the day?

I love old play books. They are like a look in the brain of a coach. Great stuff, thanks for sharing.

I would guess it was more of a free gift to get you to subscribe to the old Scholastic Coach magazine. I never saw a coach actually have one on the sideline or practice.
