broadcaster240 Posted March 5, 2014 Posted March 5, 2014 ...and wanted to know the history of such. At the risk of being repetitious: Starting in 1927 guys and gals teams were divided into A (larger) and B (smaller) schools at tournament time. Gals basketball ended in 1932; class basketball for guys lasted through 1933. Each district was set up so that the A teams made up one bracket and B teams were in the other. On Saturday afternoon, each class crowned a "champion"...and the two champs played that night for the overall title...with both advancing to the region. Regions were set up similarly: A in one bracket, B in the other. Two champs in the afternoon; an overall winner at night. In 1927, there were only six regions. From 1928-1931 there were eight regions. Each of those years, both A and B champs from each region went to state. (There were 12 teams at state in 1927; 16 teams each year after that.) In those years teams were again segregated by class until the championship game. In 1932, the state had 16 regions for the first time...and only the overall region champion advanced to the Sweet 16.

sportsmaniac Posted March 5, 2014 Posted March 5, 2014 Where did you find this information? It is very interesting and would love to learn more about it.
broadcaster240 Posted March 5, 2014 Author Posted March 5, 2014 About forty years of research. The website http://www.KentuckySportsHistory.com / Page 2 has much of the basketball stuff. If you scroll down near the bottom of each district, region or the state tourney brackets page, there is info that explains the set up for each year. Page 3 has individual school histories. There is also quite a bit of football history...and the complete baseball state tournament records. There is a consortium of seven of us...from Caldwell County to Catlettsburg...who work together. Well over a hundred others have contributed in some way or other. Certainly not a one man operation.

You and those who responded to your inquiries (who often seem far & few between) deserve kudos for having done this work. Just think, if someone doesn't do this, then how much history might we have lost that could never be uncovered again? Thank you for all of your efforts from all of us who love the game.
