I witnessed this in a game last night and was amazed.

A coach who's team was in a close game however trailing at the time intentionally yelling time out after the ball was passed to the shooter at the freethrow line. The distraction worked and the young lady missed the free throws.

He tried to make it look like he was calling time out before the ball was passed ,by standing near the scorers table and saying "time" not very loudly . Then he waited to the instant the ball was passed to the shooter to start yelling " TIME OUT".

He did this on two occasions in about two minutes.

As a side note early in the game one of his players was about to have the ball taken away and a parent yelled "TIME OUT " the official blew the whistle which allowed his team to maintain the ball.

 

The best thing to come of this bush league activity is that they did in fact loose the game.

Different interpretations by officials on this one. The disconcertion rule says "by opponents." Opponents is not described. Is it the 5 on the floor? Does it include bench personnel? So disconcertion could be called if the shot was missed.

 

The other potential call is an unsporting technical on the coach.

As soon as she signaled it, the mistake was realized. Both coaches laughed and went on about their business.
