Two excellent Class A soccer teams, Brossarrt and Paintsville battle it out in the Touchstone Energy All "A" State Tournament semi-finals. Brossart prevails in a close one 2-1.

 

A PK goal by Eli Nienaber at the 10:43 mark of the first period gave the Mustangs a 1-0 lead, and when Sophomore Joey Hickman connected at the 14:45 mark in the second half Brossart started feeling good about themselves, up 2-0.

 

Paintsville erased the Brossart security blanket goal with just 4:12 to go in the contest on a breakaway goal by Zach Baldwin closing the gap to 2-1. The Mustangs had some anxious moments in those final 4 minutes but the defense was up to the task, advancing the Mustangs to the Touchstone Energy All "A" State finals on Sunday at 1pm vs Kentucky Country Day. The game will be broadcast live via the index website starting at about 12:50pm.

I was extremely impressed with the play of the Paintsville keeper Brett Salyers, and the intense play by #8 Jacob Johnson and #1 Luke Daniels who never gave up until the final horn. We wish the Paintsville Tigers the best of luck for the remainder of the regular season and post-season.
