Male 4 St. Henry 3 (Boys)

Featured Replies

St. Henry lost a hard fought game to a good Louisville Male team last night 4-3. The Cru had a chance to go up early on two hard, short range shots that were stopped by the Male keeper. St. Henry fought back from a 2-0 deficit to get within one. SH goals were scored by Grome, Eibel (pk) and Lannon.

Eibel was pulled down in the box by the Male defender as he was breaking away. Can one of the soccer experts enlighten me on what the rule is to generate a yellow card in addition to the pk? No card given last night.

Should have been a red card. Eibel had moved well in front of the defender, in the box with the ball at his feet and the kid reached out and grabbed his jersey and pulled him down. I have seen players sent off for much less obvious denial of a goal scoring opportunity.

If the descriptions given are accurate I would say straight red as well. Intentional denial of a goal scoring opportunity, whether that is by handling the ball or pulling someone down is straight red.

Was this a home or away game for St. Henry?

) Denying an obvious goalscoring opportunity by an offense punishable by a free kick or a penalty kick In order for a player or substitute to be sent off for denying an "obvious goalscoring opportunity by an offense punishable by a free kick or a penalty kick" (number 5 under the seven send-off offenses), four elements must be present: • Number of Defenders—not more than one defender between the foul and the goal, not counting the defender who committed the foul • Distance to goal—the closer the foul is to the goal, the more likely it is an obvious goalscoring opportunity • Distance to ball—the attacker must have been close enough to the ball at the time of the foul to continue playing the ball • Direction of play—the attacker must have been moving toward the goal at the time the foul was committed If any element is missing, there can be no send off for denying an obvious goalscoring opportunity. Further, the presence of each of these elements must be "obvious" in order for the send-off to be appropriate under this provision of Law 12

Thanks for the detailed answer imsays. One question to clarify. Is the keeper considered a defender in the first element?
