Trinity Insider for the week of 9/20- Open Date

Featured Replies

This week is the first of two open weeks this season for Trinity. The Shamrocks are 1-3 and the next opponent scheduled for 9/27 is Cathedral of Indianapolis. Trinity fell victim to Colerain from suburban Cincinnati. The Cardinals are currently a consensus top 50 team in the USA. The Rocks other losses have come to Ensworth (TN), and Lawrence Central (IN). The lone victory is over Carmel (IN). I will cover more about these teams a little later. Trinity, through necessity, has stepped up the level of difficulty in their scheduling practices. The team has taken some lumps or “black eyes” as Coach Beatty stated was to be expected prior to the start of the season. Untimely turnovers, a poor choice here and there on punt returns, and inopportune penalties on both sides of the ball have aided in the slow start record wise. On the bright side, the Rocks have come through the first four games without any serious injuries. The “off week” will provide the time for more instruction and evaluation as the Shamrocks edge closer to district play.

The offensive line is performing well protecting the quarterback. The run blocking needs to show improvement. Based on past results, this group will grow into a more cohesive unit and master Coach Coverdale’s offensive scheme. The defense has been challenged with a variety of offenses and some very talented skill people. Coach Smith will continue to work on the rotation of the front four. Currently eight players are seeing the field. The linebackers’ inexperience at the varsity level was anticipated and with five regular season contests remaining, they can blossom into an outstanding unit. The defensive backs show signs of stepping up their play. They are growing each week and need to continue to improve for a successful playoff run. The offensive skill folks have much talent. They need to continue to develop their confidence and cut down on turnovers and penalties. Trinity is in the hunt for a win in every game.

Future opponents: Cathedral defeated Bishop Chatard 37-35 to even their record at 2-2. They warm up for Trinity by playing at Cincinnati St. Xavier this Friday. Louisville St. Xavier rebounded from their loss to Bowling Green by pounding Fairdale 50-0. The Tigers are now 3-1 going into Friday’s game at Cincinnati Moeller. Male outmanned Jeffersontown 47-0 to move to 4-0. duPont Manual and Moeller both play later today. I will add those results when available.

Trinity tidbits: The Trinity all-time record is 559-150-7. Trinity has now faced 85 different opponents since varsity play began in 1955. The jury is still very much out on the Crusaders. Outside of Pike, they really haven't played anyone worthy of judging their true skill level.

The Tigers will be a better measurement.

The Crimsons raised their record to 3-0 with a 28-7 victory over PRP. District season starts 10/4 for the Rocks. Two undefeated squads and a one loss arch-rival. Crimsons, and Tigers , and Bulldogs! Oh my! :banghead:
