The passing of A J Breit was the difference in this match. Ballard simply could not keep up with the St. Xavier offense. A couple of early turnovers doomed the Bruins. I did not hear the name of #18, a slightly undersized fleetfooted running back for the Xaverians. Ballard played a recent Trinity transfer on both sides of the ball for most of the game. He is a lineman nicknamed Big Cat. Ballard did have to invest in a helmet to fit the 6'5" beast. Tucker Donlon played well on the X defensive line. And for those interested, St. Xavier did play juniors. This was confirmed by a father of a St. X staffer who happens to be a personal friend of mine.

I plan on watching the Ballard/St X freshmen game on Thursday.

Thanks for the report. Apparently, new coaches, new ideas. Did the big guy come out of JCPS or the CSAA? Was this the first game for both?

The Big Guy was a Holy Spirit player. I believe this was the first JV game for both. I also believe Jefferson County Public Schools has a rule about starting JV and Freshmen seasons after varsity squads have played a game. They also limit themselves to 16 contests combined for non-varsity action.
