Try To Stop Our Run Game, We’ll Run Over You

Any offensive minded Coach knows how to win games. A Coach that may not put the best team on the field or have as many players as other teams do but is still able to win games. A team that wins year after year after year turns into a machine that keeps on winning and rarely gets stopped.

That machine is located in Pond Creek Nation and is known as Belfry. The man who makes this machine known as Belfry run is long time head coach Philip Haywood. Coach Haywood is in his 28
th
season as head coach at Belfry and has a record of 362-124 with 2 state championships, those came in back to back seasons in 2003 & 2004. Coach Haywood is the type of coach that knows what it takes to win games, 362 career wins verifies that. Coach Haywood is Kentucky’s all time winningest coach in history.

Belfry rushed for almost 5,000 yards in 2012 (4,832 to be exact). Belfry was lead by Junior running back, Trenity Carr (SR RB. 6’0” 225) who rushed for 1,185 yards and had 12 rushing touchdown’s. Trenity also had 125 receiving yards and 2 touchdown receptions. On defense, Trenity had 5 tackles and 1 fumble recovery that was returned for 15 yards. This will be Trenity’s second season as starting running back.

Another talented running back who will join Trenity Carr in the backfield will be third year starting running back, Justin Johnson (SR. RB. 5’8” 160). Justin rushed for 915 yards and had 15 rushing touchdowns to go along with 97 receiving yards on just 3 pass receptions and had 1 touchdown reception.

Another running back that will join Trenity and Justin will be first year starter Austin Hatfield (JR. RB. 5’10” 205). Austin rushed for 840 yards and 7 rushing touchdowns. On defense, Austin had 41 tackles and 1 interception that was returned for 10 yards.

Second year starter on offense, four year starter on defense, Sani Warren (SR. QB. 6’1” 190) will be the starting QB for Belfry. Sani rushed for 332 yards and had 7 rushing touchdowns. Sani passed for 990 of Belfry’s 1,058 passing yards and had 11 passing touchdowns and was picked off twice. On defense, Sani had 4 interceptions for 10 yards to go along with 31 tackles.

Belfry will be looking to end the streak and bring a state championship back to Pond Creek since 2004 and end the 3 year streak of losing in the state championship game. Each year for the past three years, Belfry has faced Louisville Central in the state championship game and each year has been the same result with Louisville Central coming out on top. Sani Warren, Austin Hatfield, Justin Johnson and Trenity Carr will be the driving force for Belfry which is lead by head coach Philip Haywood. Belfry will have a successful year in 2013. They will have One 1,000 yard rusher, 915 yard rusher, 840 yard rusher and a 332 yard rusher to go along with a 1,000 yard passer. Fans, players, Parents can get on KHSAA as soon as the stats are reported for each game and see how these players done and their sons done in each game that Belfry plays. I for one, will be very surprised if Belfry isn’t back down in Bowling Green come end of November, beginning of December playing for yet another State Championship.

Just to point out some eye popping stats..

Belfry's returning skill players accounted for a combined 4909 yards. Of those 4,724 yards were by the Belfry "1's".

Those yards came in 15 games, 8 of which had a running clock activated. In those 8 games Belfry's "1's" did not see carries in the 4th Quarter.

Average yards per touch of the Belfry starting backfield (Carr, Hatfield, and Johnson)? 329 Touches, 3166 yards, 9.6 yards per Touch

Touchdown Per Touch Ratio of the Belfry Starting Backfield? 329 Touches, 37 TD's.. Touchdown Every 8.9 Touches

Unbelievable stats as I truly feel Belfry may very well have pound for pound the best backfield in the State of Kentucky returning.. with that said it is going to be difficult to even come close to those staggering numbers this season as Belfry only returns one Offensive Lineman. The Pirates also have substantially beefed up their schedule and to be honest the only potential running clock games I see are District Games vs. Pike Central and Sheldon Clark.
