Mason County hosts a 16th Region opponent for the second game in a row on Friday night as the Vikings come to the Fieldhouse.

 

I think there are only 2 common opponents; Rowan lost to Fleming County in Flemingsburg in OT, but beat Clark County in Morehead. Mason defeated Fleming easily this past Tuesday, beat Clark County on a neutral court early in the season.

 

Any thoughts or predictions? If Mason gets in early foul trouble, they will have problems. If not, I look for the Royals to win by about 10.

Looks to be a good game, if Mason stays out of foul trouble, they can win fairly easily but Rowan plays tough and physical, something Mason doesn't handle very well. Good luck to both teams!

Gator, you're on target. Mason has to keep their big men out of foul trouble, especially Turner and Miller; because their bench is pretty thin. I've seen nearly every Mason County game this year, and the times they looked the worst were against Lex Cath, due to Catholic's deep bench and relentless pressure, against Scott County, who played a much more physical style than they could handle - but the worst game was against Southwestern in the first round of the 5/3 tourney. That time it wasn't so much getting out-muscled (Southwestern was much smaller) but being very careless with the ball and getting out-hustled. So the second key for Mason against Rowan besides holding their own from a physical standpoint is to value the basketball by keeping the turnovers to a minimum.

 

On another note, it seems that Mason County has historically been Fleming's biggest rival; but with the move to the 16th, do you see Rowan County as replacing Mason in that regard anytime soon?
