Tonight in Union the Breds kill themsevles in the field as they commit 6 errors and lose 3-0. NewCath pitcher Sarah Neace only gives up one hit, albeit an infield single in the 4th, however 6 errors and 9 walks doom the Breds. Ryle pitcher Ali Crupper does a great job in striking out 13 NewCath batters, but the Breds do collect 6 hits. Now on to the recap.

NewCath 1st - K, Casey Kohls singles, K, K.

Ryle 1st - BB, E5, (PB advances runners), K, PO3, BB, K. 0-0 after 1.

NewCath 2nd - Taylor Burkart "bloops" one into center, SS, 2nd, CF, & RF all converge but no one catches it, however Burkart is out by a step as she hesitates going into 2nd. K, K.

Ryle 2nd - BB, SAC1-4, BB, BB, PO4, K. 0-0 after 2.

NewCath 3rd - FO9, K, K.

Ryle 3rd - E6, K, PO4, PO5. 0-0 after 3.

NewCath 4th - Kohls doubles, PO3, K, PO4.

Ryle 4th - Hannah Brumback beats by a step an infield single to Loren Zimmerman at 3rd, the Raiders ONLY hit of the game, a WP moves her to 2nd. FO7, BB, then Casey Kohls has a chance to end the inning with an easy double play ball, but it goes right between the legs and into rightcenter allowing the 1st run to score. Runners are know at 1st & 3rd, but Neace gets Hammes to hit a comebacker !-3 for the 2nd out. However a WP scores the 2nd run and the final run comes home on an error at SS. The inning ends with Breds catcher Kristen Schreiber throwing out her 6th runner in 11 attempts. Ryle 3-0 after 4.

NewCath 5th - K, Christina Enzweiler single, Molly Mertle single, PO3, K.

Ryle 5th - E6, BB, BB, PO2, PO5, GO5. Ryle 3-0 after 5.

NewCath 6th - Kohls single, K, K, FO9.

Ryle 6th - FO9, BB, as in the 4th inning Casey Kohls this time fields the grounder an tags the runner from 1st and flips on to Burkart at 1st for the 4-3 "twin killing". Ryle 3-0 after 6.

NewCath 7th - E8, K, K, GO1-3. Ballgame, Ryle 3-0.

NewCath (6-9) 0-0-0-0-0-0-0---0-6-6

Ryle......(12-3) 0-0-0-3-0-0-x---3-1-1

Pitching

Ryle - Ali Crupper 0 runs, 6 hits, 13K's, 0 BB's

NewCath Sarah Neace 3 runs, 0ER, 1 hit, 4K's, 9 BB's

Hitting

Ryle - Brumback single

NewCath - Kohls 3-3, double.

I am going to try and phrase this correctly. Sometimes Neace doesn't pass the eye test but she does a damn good job of keeping the hits down to a minimum. Sounds like the walks killed her tonight. Hard to beat anyone with 6errors and 9 walks.

Since she was hit in the face in the 2nd game of the year and suffered a concussion, she has not been the same. However she is making strides and it's just going to take some time.

BTW there was no JV game tonight, since 8 of our 8th graders were missing (4 on a class retreat & 4 performing in a school play). These girls are going to be a bit rusty when they finally play a game since it will 2 weeks Wed. since their last game.

Ryle does what they always do and that is find a way to win.

Hats off to NCC to give up 9 walks and have 6 errors and only lose 3-0 to a good team is almost amazing.

Its great to hear that she is getting better.

I'll be curious to see how many hits the Rule scorekeeper reports.

Ryle has no reason to pad their score book.

I would agree.

KY Post has Ryle with 2 hits and 2 errors and NCC with 4 hits and only 3 errors.

NCC 0 4 3

Ryle 3 2 2

Not to far off but their book does not match yours.

Thus, why I was curious to see how Ryle's scorekeeper would report things.

1. a high throw that pulls the 1st baseman off the bag allowing runner to be safe

2. a pick-off attempt that is short and goes into rightfield allowing the runner to advance

3. a "screamer" that goes between the legs and under the glove

4. a hard shot that hits the glove and rolls up the arm

5. & 6. two balls that hit the glove but are not handled

That equals 6 in my book. Really "baffled" at the two hits they are not accounting for?

If not for the errors, who knows, we could still be playing.

Really doesn't matter though, bottomline is Ryle won and Congrats to them.
