I agree with the ASA comment, my only reasoning for saying going with ASA is it is their national organization and it would be a START and it is better than Knothole! I mean some coaches do not even know how to teach proper throwing mechanics! These people do not need to be coaching at all! How can a girl come to high school and be playing since she was say 9 - 10 and not know how to throw the ball correctly? Absolutely ridiculous in my opinion. I have no problems with a parent coaching their children IF THEY KNOW THE GAME and fundamentals. Heck I was coached by my dad and played for one of the better teams out of Texas at the time.

 

I just wish the leagues around NKY were run a little bit differently and the girls were given a chance to play fast pitch all of their years instead of playing slow pitch up until I think 10 years old (I am hoping this has changed in CC, I have not checked on it recently).

 

If I was running a league this is how I would do it (each girl would be in each league for 2 years unless they are beyond advanced):

 

5 - 6 T-ball/coach pitch

7 - 8 girl's pitch/coach pitch

9 - older Girl pitch

 

You have to start developing these kids younger and not wait until they are 10 - 11 years old. This is what the Texas, California, Colorado, Georgia, Florida, Arizonas of the world do. Now granted these states can pretty much play year round but you can still have a fall and spring league.

 

All good points, and throwing is the most important thing. Most of your throwing mechanics are the same as your hitting mechanics, get the throwing down and you are on your way.

All kidding aside, I am unsure if there is enough interest for a league. What I would like to do is start just an open gym type deal in the summer at a ball field. Charge maybe 5 or 10 bucks a kid and give them 2 hours of fundamentaly training. The money we charge could go to buy balls, tee's and etc to make it nice and maybe get them a tee shirt for the kids that come every week. Start small and see where it goes, if we get enough girls and have enough people to help maybe we could start a league. We could have older HS girls come in and help for service hours. Youth games softball or baseball at the 6 to 10 age group can be very hard to watch. If we got together and made it fun for 2 hours once a week I think we would have a better shot at getting girls involved in this great game.

Yes I am very familer with it, I usually don't get on there much. So I clicked your link and first thing I see is a whole thread about the Colonial Athletic, so thanks alot now I will spend even more time being less productive!!!

DD's pitching coach has put on fundamentals clinics for last couple years because softball is so bad in KY, overall. She's from Las Vegas, played for Rico on the Firecrackers ended up C-USA 2005 POY, and can't stand seeing kids not being taught right. She even invites the parents to watch and participate. Problem is not too many kids show up.

Not nearly as bad as the whole Patrick Murphy to LSU and back again last year....that was bizarre and embarrassing, good thing he can hide behind that National Championship trophy!!

Murphy did it after the season and didn't remain on as an assit. Kinda like when Billy D left Fl for the Magic for a couple days. This guy quit the day before the first game and then remained on bench for 3 weeks before coming back.
