Big start by Gallatin too much to overcome by Carroll

A big scoring first quarter proved to be the difference as Gallatin County held on for a 61-56 win over Carroll County in boys district basketball action Friday in Carrollton.

The visiting Wildcats out-scored Carroll 22-18 in the first quarter and the two teams played essentially even after that in a five-point Gallatin win.

The Panthers had a chance to tie the game late in the fourth quarter but missed an open 3-point shot. Gallatin County then iced the win with a pair of free throws with 3.1 seconds left.

"It was a real tight game, an exciting game," Carroll County coach Carroll Yager said. "We had four starters in foul trouble in the first half and they hit five 3-pointers in the first quarter. That was really the difference in the game."

Both teams shot nearly 50 percent from the floor and had nearly identical turnovers. Gallatin County hit nine 3-pointers to Carroll's four as the only real statistical difference.

Dallas Gibson had 20 points and 12 rebounds to lead Carroll County while Trey Boles had 13 points and Brandon Stewart scored 12 points and had five assists.

Kristian Morgan scored 28 points on 9-of-14 shooting - including 5-of-8 on 3-pointers - and had six assists to lead Gallatin. Koby Carlton had 11 points.

Carroll, now 4-2 overall, 3-2 in the North Central Kentucky Conference and 1-2 in the 31st District, plays in the Bellevue Holiday Tournament beginning Friday.

Gallatin is now 3-0 in Dristrict 31 play, all on the road. A victory over Owen County on Friday night in Warsaw would go along way in securing the top seed...

That is true. Good luck to the Wildcats on Friday night against the Rebels of Owen Co.
