How many of the top 5 schools would Blewett start for, B-ball?

I've never seen the kid.

I've never seen the kid.

That's a very good question. I've wondered this time and again myself. Taking nothing away from him, and let's not forget that being a Covington Latin player he's been anywhere from 2 to 4 years younger than his opponents over the past three seasons with him being of 8th to 10th grade age, playing true aged 10th to 12th graders all the while racking up astronomical statistics. (For anyone who doesn't know this, Covington Latin is an accelerated school where the students bypass the 7th and 8th grades and enter the 9th grade at a 7th grade age). Of course a big factor here is that Latin's schedule is from top to bottom smaller schools that next to never make any dent within their respective regions. With that said the big question here is: Is Mitchell a big fish in a small pond, or could he perhaps with his talents play a significant role on a top 5 team in the 9th Region?

I've personally witnessed him play twice last year and have intentions to get out to see him a couple more time this season.

I believe that his height is around 6'2", 6'3". He has great body strength and is physically mature beyond his age. He attacks the basket quite well and plays with fierce accuracy when taking it to the hole. He typically records double-doubles also because of his rebounding. He's also a good shot blocker as well. In games he is never called on to score away from the basket. In warmups I did notice that he has no jump shot to speak of. No elevation. If he's developed one over the summer I do not know. His set shots look like they're from the 1950's. He can make them but in a game they'd be too easy to defend. He's pretty accurate from the charity stripe. Of course for Latin with his talents, he's responsible for carrying the load which also accounts for his numbers. He does have a spirited die-hard supporting cast that were mostly last season juniors as well that are as feisty as they can be with their inescapable limitations. I'm guessing with that, they might even show a bit more experience this year as seniors. With all this in mind I do believe that on a top 5 team he could be a worthy inside threat, but it is very doubtful that he would put up the kind numbers that he does for Latin. Of course on a top 5 team he wouldn't be required to. His biggest attribute is a very strong move to the basket and I believe that he'd still be able to perform as such against stiffer competition.

As you can see here I have a very hard time answering that question with a simple "yes" or a "no" considering all the variables. It would be nice to see for sure, but ultimately with the nature of things, it's unlikely that we ever will. It's fun food for thought but perhaps even a bit futile. I have no idea if he's had any college offers and perhaps if he did it will be only then that we ever get any true measure of how he could perform under stiffer circumstances.

So ultimately with all that I've said here... perhaps I've said nothing....but since you asked I gave it my best try to give it some thought.

Latin plays @ Bellevue on Wednesday and @ Dayton on Friday. Perhaps then I'll get a better take on how much he's matured since last season.

Very good assessment. I've seen him play this year and he attacks the basket but lacks a left hand. He is no threat from the outside but he works hard to get to the hole. I think if he were on a top 5 team, he would contribute but not be the scorer that he is at Latin.

I just now noticed that if you click on Blewett's photo on the link it goes into more detail about him. This tells me a little more about him that I did not know, such as his goal to play college ball some day and his exact height.
