Butler’s William Johnson had 100 yards rushing and two touchdowns on 11 carries to lead the 20th-ranked Bears over visiting Manual 34-17 Friday night in high school football.

The Bears (5-1), No. 20 in The Courier-Journal’s Litkenhous ratings, dominated Manual on the ground, gaining 273 rushing yards to the Crimsons’ 93.

“We emphasize wearing people out,” Butler coach Scott Carmony said. “We wanted to hunker down and run some time off the clock.”

The score was only 7-3 Butler at the half after Johnson’s 13-yard run. Bryson Williams’ 45-yard interception return for a touchdown late in the third quarter swung the momentum Butler’s way.

Johnson added a 9-yard run to give the Bears a 20-3 lead. Manual’s Michael Nero answered with a 79-yard touchdown run, but the Crimsons (2-4) could get no closer.
