Covington Catholic / Beechwood Updates

Here is your game report from EyeOfTheTiger:

Cov Cath received the opening kickoff and started on their 14. The first play was a great interception by Beechwood's Jack Talley. Beechwood had the ball at the 40. Three running plays looked like it would be first down Beechwood but Max Nussbaum lost the ball in the pile and Cov Cath recovered. Two plays later, Beechwood intercepted Bir again. Max Shover picked off the pass and the Tigers had the ball at the 46. A pass interference play on 3rd down gave the Tigers one first down but the Colonels defense toughened and stopped the Tigers on downs at the 25. It didn't take the Colonels long to score. Bir hit Evan Braun on a quick slant pattern outside the hash in one on one coverage, Braun broke the tackle and took it 66 yards for the TD. The Tigers blocked the extra point try by Dressman and it was 6-0 Colonels at 5:39 left in the first quarter. Beechwood went 3 and out from the 22 and the Colonels started their next drive just 46 yards out. Bir struck again on a great pass over the middle to Braun, 36 yards perfectly thrown just over the Beechwood safety and Braun made a nice finger tip catch for the TD. Dressman's kick was good, 13-0 at the 2:52 mark. The game goit ugly from there. Lane overthrew everyone on a pass play that went directly into the hands of Matthew Way and he returned it 45 yards for another TD. Now it was 20-0 at the 1:41 mark. The ugliness continued when Beechwood fumbled on their next possession and CCH had the ball again, starting at the 34.

The second quarter saw CCH driving. They converted two fourth down plays inside the 15 with the second one a handoff to Egbers on a WR sweep from 3 yards for the score. Goddard came on to kick the extra point and it was 27-0 with 10:27 to go. Beechwood went to the running game and methodically moved the ball upfield. They ran a fake punt to Nussbaum to pick up a first down around the 40. The long drive ended with a punt with just seconds left. CCH kneeled from their own 37 and the half ended.

Beechwood received the second half kickoff, a line drive that rolled into the end zone just inside the pylon. Beechwood went 3 and out from the 20. A poor punt gave CCH good field position at the 36. This drive ended with Bir hitting Egbers for a 36 yard TD pass. Goiddard's extra point made it 34-0 with 7:33 to go. Things started to get dicey with both teams getting personal fouls and the refs called the teams together. The Tigers offense put together another nice, long drive that extended into the fourth quarter.

Lane looked to get hurt on a running play and Suchanek came in at QB. Soon after, Suchanek hit Devon Everett with a 19 yard TD pass, an excellent catch by Everett. The extar point hit the crossbar, no good and thescore was 34-6 with 9:19 left in the game. The Tigers onsides kick was unsuccessful. Both teams went 3 and out on their next drive. Beechwood had a poor punt and a face mask penalty on the return gave CCH the ball at the 15 yard line. The Colonels gave Beatrice some work and he finally scored on a 6 yard run. Goddrad's kick made it 41-6 with 3:50 to go and that is how it ended.
