gold sunrise
One thing that Central’s 19-14 football victory at Ballard proved Friday night was that the Yellowjackets have more than one outstanding running back. Darren Powell, a 5-foot-6, 172-pound junior fullback, took most of the running chores in the second half after senior Derius Cox suffered a slight concussion early in the third quarter. Powell finished the game with 164 yards on 22 carries and scored two touchdowns as the two-time defending state Class 3-A champions improved to 4-0. Cox rushed for 119 yards on 19 carries in the first half and scored Central’s first TD on a 5-yard run to cap a nine-play, 80-yard drive following the opening kickoff. He ran twice for 4 yards in the second half. He averaged 196.7 yards in his first three games. http://www.courier-journal.com/article/20120907/SPORTS05/309070129/Central-runs-past-Ballard-19-
