Newport Wildcats travel to the Capital City to take on the Panthers of Frankfort.

The quick and athletic Wildcats are also very young but seek a reversal of fortunes after being outscored by an average of 10 points per game in 2011, an 18-point swing from the previous year. The offense will be led by senior RB Daylin Garland. Garland played multiple positions last season with 650 yards rushing, 500 yards receiving, and 200 yard passing. The Wildcats have change offensively this season to a more option attack hoping to utilize QB JaShawn Short ability to run to their advantage. Looking to improve last year’s defense this year’s team will move to a 44 defense.

As for Frankfort this season the Panthers feel they are more athletic than last year’s 7-6 team. They have spent the off season making adjustments to their offense to a more Spread attack. Wanting to take advantage of D-1 Wide-receiver Aaron Jackson who currently holds offers from Navy, Liberty, and EKU. Frankfort looks to divide the burden on offense with WR/RB Jalen Washington. Look for the Panthers Defense to lead this team early as the look to improve and get comfortable on offense.

Last year meeting: Frankfort won 14-8

Newport

Last season: 4-7 (1-3) – Lost in first round of 2A playoffs to Owen County.

Frankfort

Last Season: 7-6 (3-0) – Last in Regional Finals to Beechwood.

Newport will be much improved this season but I like Frankfort at home in this one.

Frankfort 28

Newport 21

Where will they get 21 points from? The Fat Albert Defense will not give up 21 on opening night.....:taz:
