Newport Central Catholic 3 Newport 0 36th District Finals

Featured Replies

The Breds defense and the Wildcats inability to come up with a big hit is the difference this evening. NewCath Fr. Sarah Neace out-duels Newport Fr. Katlyn Hoeh (pron. Hay) as they both go the distance with Neace giving up 6 hits and striking out 6 and Hoeh giving up 7 hits and striking out 4.

Newport starts off the 1st with Hoeh hitting one off the out-strechted glove of 3rd baseman Loren Zimmerman that SS Michaela Ware fields, but the throw is not in time, the next batter Taylor Tyler draws the 1st of her 3 consecutive walks and it's not starting off good for the Breds. Neace gets Miranda Combs to strikeout, but the 4 hitter Raven Rice singles to left, but the runners have to hold as NewCath leftfielder Taylor Burkart "fires" the throw to the plate. With the bases loaded and one out Neace gets the next two batters to Strikeout to end the threat. The Breds get a 2 out single from Ware, who steals 2nd and anvances to 3rd on the errant throw, but she is stranded. Newport gets a 1 out single from Debbie Kroth in the 2nd, but that's it. The Breds score 2 in the 2nd. Fr. Kristen Schreiber hits a single to left and moves over to 2nd as the leftfielder lets the ball get past her. Taylor Burkart hits a two hopper to SS, but the throw gets past the 1st baseman and Schreiber comes around to score. Following a Hannan Jones pop-out, Fr. Loren Zimmerman plates Burkart with an RBI single. Newport gets a leadoff walk from Tyler in the 3rd, and that's all. The Breds go 1-2-3 in their half of the frame. Newport goes 1-2-3 in the 4th, as do the Breds.

Newport makes thing interesting in the 5th as they get the "sacks juiced" and 1 down, however Rice strikeouts and Emily Atkins pops out to the catcher to end the inning. The Breds get a 1 out single in their half of the 5th, as Mehgan Millard hits a "beautiful" running slap-shot, but that's it. Neace gets the Wildcats to go 1-2-3 in the top of the 6th. The Breds plate their final run of the evening in the 6th. Rachel Hardesty leads the inning off with a single and moves over to 2nd on a passed ball. The next two Breds batters are retired and then So. Taylor Burkart hits an RBI double to right-center. The Wildcats get a single from Hoeh in the 7th, but that is all and that's your ballgame.

Sounds strange to say the least. But in all fairness this young lady has been through "one hell of a lot" this past season, considering who her father is......the coach. And not this matters, but She's a great kid and scored a 30 on her ACT. :ylsuper:So I have no problem with Jr. Maddie Blevins being on the All-Tourney Team.
