Cardinals rally to beat Harrison County

The George Rogers Clark baseball team stretched its winning streak to seven games with a 7-3 triumph over Harrison County Thursday afternoon.

The contest was originally scheduled to be played in Cynthiana, but was moved to Winchester Thursday because of field issues at Harrison County High School. The win evened Clark’s record at 7-7, while the Thorobreds fell to 11-5 on the season.

Clark got a solid outing from pitcher Logan McQuerry, who went the distance and got the win. McQuerry scattered eight hits in seven innings of work.

McQuerry gave up three runs — one of which was earned — walked just one batter and struckout five.

Harrison County pitcher Brandon Kendall fanned 10 Clark batters in six innings and gave up seven runs, four earned.

The Thorobreds scored three times in the third inning and led 3-1 going into the fourth frame, but the hosts took the lead for good with a four-run outburst in the fourth inning. Hunter Osborne and Scotty Turner highlighted the team’s offensive performance in the inning with run-scoring doubles. McQuerry added a two-bagger in the fifth frame.

Brent Stoneking and Osborne paced Clark’s offense with two hits apiece, while Pokey Harris, Taylor Howard, McQuerry, Turner and Luke Sharrock chipped in with one hit apiece.

Clark is scheduled to compete in the Greenup County Invitational this weekend.
