I was pullin for East. But that was a block, and I used to ref, and still umpire. He got there too late.

Clemons from PRP does just what you teach- take the ball to the basket, but pull up if there is someone there to take the charge. There was no one in position to take the charge, clearly should have been a block, and now PRP is going home when they probably would have won the game if the correct call was made.

I think the official missed it. Happens.

 

However, if the teaching is "but pull up if there is someone there to take a charge" then the kid messed up. The defender was there to take a charge. He got there late but he was close enough.

 

Too many high school kids either shoot the standstill J or take it all the way to the rim. The penetration followed by a pull up J is missing. It would have worked perfectly here and you wouldn't have to depend on a judgement call.

Good point! The pull up jump shot is not utilized enough in today's game! But to Clemon's defense, this "judgement" call was not even close in my eyes! Should have been a block.
