  1. We now venture into the heart of District Play where the games matter most for playoff seeding. This past weekend's slate helped put two very important corner pieces in the place as we begin to piece the 2A Playoff Puzzle together, we also had some other questions answered as well through a few high profile Non-District games. Owensboro Catholic Aces Test With respect to the other teams in the District, Owensboro Catholic essentially claimed the District Title in District 2 with their impressive 53-14 seal clubbing of #9 Butler County. Ray Zuberer tossed for 337 yards and 6 TD's and Jonathan Garner gained over 100 yards rushing for emphasis. The Aces have quietly shown a marked improvement on Defense as four times already this year they have held their opposition to 2 TD's Shelby Valley Finds Their Fit Against Prestonsburg Over in District 8 it is too early to project a winner in a Texas 3-Way Match between Shelby Valley, Prestonsburg, and Leslie County, but the Wildcats from Robinson Creek put themselves in a power position thanks to a 2nd Half comeback to win 12-7. This was perhaps the ugliest game of the night in the state. A rain drenched game where neither offense found much of a rhythm and neither Special Teams unit really aided their team's cause. In the end though Shelby Valley capitalized on Field Position for a pair of Second Half scores and a late Pburg drive came up short. This was the first time in recent memory that Valley was able to win in Pburg, and the Wildcats now have a 3 game win-streak against the proud Blackcat program. Walton-Verona is Putting It Together Following an 0-4 start doubt had crept into Bearcat Country, but last week's "upset" (at the time at least) win over LCA began to turn momentum. Walton-Verona continued to press the accelerator by taking down District 5 Rival Carroll County 21-0 on Friday. This is a District with a ton of parody, but a District with a ton of power as well. The winner secures homefield advantage until Bowling Green and the Bearcat's win certainly helps put them in the pilot's seat moving forward. Murray and Mayfield Square Up All eyes will be on War Memorial Stadium this Friday as #2 Mayfield and #6 Murray play the first of the two premier 2A vs. 2A Matchups (The Second being CAL vs. DeSales on 10-9). You can join the discussion for this game and make your predictions here: http://bluegrasspreps.com/ky-football-high/murray-vs-mayfield-312200.html Friday both teams got their engine's moving with headliner Non-District matchups. Mayfield took the long bus ride to Campbellsville College to tangle with 3A Corbin in a game that would bets be described as "nasty". With both sides battling key injuries as well as the inclement weather it took a couple late Mayfield Touchdown passes to finally pull away from the physical Redhounds. Though not eye catching margin of victory some expected, this was a valuable win for the Cards considering the circumstances and a game that definitely made them a bit tougher in the long run. Murray made short work of a Top 5 1A Russellville team capitalizing on turnovers to pull away to a head turning 31-7 victory. Many were considering Russellville a potential team to beat in 1A and the consensus was that the Panthers entered the game a bit of a slight favorite over the Tigers. The key to this week's matchup will once again be Defense. Both teams have proven very stout against the run, but the threat of the passing game and big play ability will be the ultimate deciding factor. No word has been given on the status of Mayfield's dynamic Trajon Bright or the health of the Cardinal LB'ers, but whether they will be able to go will play a key role. In Bright's absence Sophomore Shauntrez Tyler shined against Corbin. Loose Pieces - Somerset had a nice win playing up against Rockcastle County. For those who like to compare scores it was 21-20. Somerset's District running mate Danville beat the Rockets 46-18 earlier this year. - Only one unbeaten team remains in 2A and it is Leslie County who improved to 5-0 with a 43-0 victory against Betsy Layne - One of the most impressive victories was Lloyd Memorial defeating a fringe Top 10 Garrard County team 54-26. NewCath went down to 6A Conner 21-17, the Juggs take on that same Conner team next.
