  1. I was in attendance at this game. X had all # 1s in. T did likewise. If some fans are questioning hits one way or another, that is what it is - some fans, not all. X played hard; T played hard.

Injuries happen. It is a violent game. Move on.

Both great programs were playing to win; both great programs were doing so with maximum effort. I hope all of them are OK and can return to compete another day. I do feel for Miles Bland, the senior from T who apparently suffered an ACL injury. Great kid.

  2. The referee had just informed T that they did not have to run another play. Conspiracy theorists might think Dr. Lucas was trying to bait Coach Beatty into throwing over the top, but Beatty didn't take the bait. Bigger question is why would Dr. Lucas want to do this???

  3. Where in my post did I say the T coaches are stupid ? It doesn't need to be premeditated , but if your aiming at a national title bid , you need to win impressively, especially against a team (Moeller) that has just lost to a team that is not nationally ranked , on their home field that even makes the loss even worse !!

And where in mine did I accuse you of that? I didn't. Just saying that "run[ning] up the score" (your words) would likely result in bad blood between T and the opponent. And if you want to play them again - don't know if this is the case - it wouldn't be a smart thing to do.

Running up the score in my mind implies that you intentionally pile on points when the outcome is decided. Now, "winning impressively" may mean the same thing, but it just sounds less callous when you put it that way.

  4. Great atmosphere as always at Maxwell. Male will be back.

Trinity is a machine this year ... perfect blend of talent, coaching, desire, preparation and CHARACTER this year.

A week of rest before they face a previously undefeated Moeller squad that got stung on a last second FG from Indy Cathedral tonite.

For Male, heads-up and keep working. You are headed in the right direction.

  5. Love going to Maxwell Field to watch a game! Always a great atmosphere, and LOUD cheering. I am sure Male will be back and will play hard on Friday night.

As for the Manual game, any thoughts on what I thought was a surprisingly one-dimensional offense? Was it b/c of injury or has this been the pattern?

  6. As a point of clarification on the original post in this odd thread, there WERE KY teams willing to play other than those "mandated to play" Trinity. But in this particular year, with the reorganization of district opponents, along with prior non-athletic relationships T has with some of the out-of-state opponents, offered a chance to give fans something special. And having seen them against the likes of Cathedral and MBA, I think they have delivered very well. As for making a statement, never gonna happen.

  7. Excluding Deuce, who played in CSAA but was an Indiana kid and would have gone to Providence if he stayed near home, X has had mostly public school backs for the past 6-7 years, including now.

Also, several of their key defensive players now and in the recent past were public school kids so in no way are they any different than T in offering the opportunity to play in a good system and get a great education.

It's just that T has a group of exceptional kids right now!

Amen. As to the penalty question, C-J had it: X 6 for 63 and T 6 for 55. You could argue one penalty is one too many, but a little over 100 for both high school squads isn't bad.

  8. Good test for T. Indy had played some very good teams tough and seemed to have found stride in the past two weeks. QB is tough and when he learns how to control his arm will be a very good one. A lot of passes sailed on him. Rocks D line had their work cut out for them and still held this very good team to something like 200 total yards. Was impressed with the overall sportsmanship of both teams/programs. With still more than a minute to go T went into victory formation and all was amicable. Great crowd and atmosphere.

  9. Agree with Rock85 on the first part of the "playing 1s" answer - there were multiple formations involving at least 15 on O and D. But I doubt revenge factor was involved, though that would be irritating. May have something more to do with the fact that T will need to be in condition to play 4 qtrs. against foes in the weeks ahead. Coaches aren't dummies. They know what is coming...

  10. I'm not sure i can agree with (Ramona) on the comments made by Holy Cross coach. Holy Cross coach (according to Ramona) states thay HC moved the ball on MHS ALL NIGHT, well of the 267 yards they got on the ground, 124 of them were on 2 plays early in first qtr, and they had only 31 in the air. Just an observation.

The post was not related so much to his interpretation of the stats as to his willingness to give credit to the team that just beat his team. He took up for his kids (AOK) but he also gave credit where it was due. This is rare from Coach Glaser, at least where THS is concerned. I was just contrasting the quote styles. Sorry for the confusion.

  11. An alternative, from Holy Cross coach, Mike Fletcher, whose team was up early and got mauled: "We had two really good efforts and some success early in the game. We moved the ball all night, but you can't make mistakes against a good team like that. They took advantage of every one of them." Praises and instructs his team appropriately, while giving credit to the better team that beat them, however painful that might be.

  12. Maybe I missed the posts that say X has had a landslide of talent. I think the sentiment on this site and in the media in general is that X was favored in some years in which they failed to close the deal in the second meeting. Seems to me that the overall talent level has been pretty even over the last decade, though I think adjustments in personnel and scheming favored Trinity as the seasons wore on. Having said that, anyone who knows football and saw the game last Friday would be hard-pressed to say that there was more talent on X's side of the ball.
