  1. The job must be posted for 30 days before interviewing takes place. As of Monday, it hasn't posted yet. Any names being rumored are just that. The administration is very judicious and will have a committee look at all the applicants, then interview the top 3-5 before making their selection. I know the principle and he will not tip his hand (he would be a great poker player). I will say that there will be interest from all over the tri-state and maybe beyond. They will give the job to the candidate they feel will be best suited for the program now and in the future.

  2. If you follow True Rank ... here's their final rankings of 2014-2015 including the State Tournament...

    https://www.truerank.org/2014-2015-ky-girls-basketball-rankings-jan-4.html

Boone County is 10th...FYI I am not correcting you but confirming your statement stating they had a tough schedule which I was unaware (that BC had such a tough schedule) for this year. IMO - SOS is very important especially come tournament time.

You're exactly right on the importance of SOS. My concern for Boone is that they will be so young and inexperienced that their spirit may get broken if the receive a beat down early and often while playing a schedule similar to this years.

  3. The new coach may not have a choice if already set for next season (which many are done by now). How did Duncan come along this season? Would be good if they are able to develop an inside presence to take some pressure off of Foster. Agree that Anderson is a nice player. She seems to be able to do it all.

It will be interesting to see who fills the large shoes of Nell.

Duncan had some good games for JV. She has very good instincts on offense but needs to work on her defensive skill set. Getting stronger and building her endurance will really help her game as well.

Nell has set the bar very high but I'm sure there will be some very good candidates for the administration to select from.

  4. Boone had the season that most expected of them. Nell wins some games that many others probably wouldn't. The question is what does the talent pool look like at Boone Co, especially with Nell retiring? They graduate their starting 5 (?) and only returning impact player is Foster. How will they stack up?

They did lose 5 seniors (4 started with Foster being the fifth) and more importantly Nell. They do have some young talent coming up like the Anderson girl who is a work horse. I hope the new coach doesn't play as tough of an out of conference schedule as Nell did. Boone played the 5th strongest schedule in the state this year. It will take some time molding the younger talent. Foster will have to put this team on her back and carry them. It's a role she's had before in middle school and as a freshman.

  5. With the clock getting closer to the 2015 Softball season what are your thoughts on the up comming season? Which early Tournaments are the best and what players do you think make a big impack this comming season. And most of all what teams take the big jump up and which drop down.

Northern KY softball will be very competitive again this year. Look for Highlands to be very strong again this year and NCC has been on the upswing as well. Conner will have a very good team and Boone will be good despite losing three very good seniors last year. Look for Sydney Foster to improve upon her break out year last season and Caitlyn Palmer to put up strong numbers too.

  6. Good Guy but over his head in my opinion. Some are meant to be an assistant as opposed to the head coach. He had talent but had too many playing out of position. He was too concerned in becoming the players buddy instead of their leader/ coach. He never lit a fire under them. I'm sure he got tired of dealing with very aggravated parents and the apathy that has set in with the returning players.

  7. That is crazy Ryle went up that high, and couldn't maintain that kind of lead. The Rebels play with a lot of heart, and have a great coach behind them to push them through to get them back in the game. Hats off to both teams on a great battle! Nice win for the lady raiders.

Ryle led 29-10 at halftime. Boone had trouble with Ryle's 1-2-2 press and must have had 20 plus turnovers in the half (my daughter had 6). Whatever Nell said at halftime lit a fire and Boone came out in a tenacious man to man press that caused Ryle fits. Boone outscored Ryle 42-26 in the second half and actually took the lead with a minute to play but couldn't hold on to it. Hats off to Ryle for having the resolve to hold on and win, and to Boone for not packing it in at halftime. It was a great game.

  8. Basketball season for 2014/2015 should provide another exciting year. What should we expect from Boone County? Remember, please be constructive.

The Lady Rebels will be quick and aggressive this year. They lack size once again but will look to overcome it with tenacity and grit. They return one of the best players in the region in senior Alexis Switzer along with four other battle tested seniors. They have some very talented under classmen as well and the team chemistry seems great. Coach Fookes always has them play a tough schedule to get them ready for district play. The 9th region reminds me of SEC football, it's going to be a real slugfest! When the dust clears, look for the Lady Rebels to be in the thick of it.

  9. Question for the BC faithful...

Is this a moral victory for BC?

I think it is. The Rebels were demoralized by Ryle last week and many accused them of tanking on the season and some even called the kids "garbage" in a post. Even though a loss is a loss, this should help build confidence and momentum going forward. I chuckle at the excuses SK fans are making. They had no answer for Douglas who was chewing them up for big yardage until he got hurt in the first quarter. Had he remained healthy, this thread may have Had a whole different theme!

  10. What do you think? Last year you said Boone had more raw talent than CovCath. Do you feel the coaching staff is developing that talent?

It's not a lack of talent. The seniors tied for first and beat Highlands their freshman year but many are being played out of position; the Guru's son is a prime example! He's never dropped a pass in a varsity game but hasn't had one thrown to him at all this year! IMO the coaches are bent on running a "system" rather than developing a scheme around the talent you have. All it takes to beat Boone is run a read option and you'll gain 8-12 yards per carry.

  11. 2nd year in the system. Full year of winter program. Do they have any difference makers on offense or defense?

The biggest difference will be getting those back lost to injury last year. They had 10 go out with season ending injuries including QB Jamal Lamb two weeks before the season began. He's fully rehabilitated and looked pretty good in spring ball. The Guru's son is back as well and looks great at TE. They got a transfer from Colerain who's looked good at wide out. This year, it looks as if more players are going to play both ways. There so much less uncertainty so the team can concentrate on football and that should make a huge difference alone.

  12. :wideyed: When was the last time a team from Boone Co. was not in the 9th Region Finals?

The Birds shock the 9th Region, and take down the Lady Rebels 6-3 in the 9th Region Semi's. Bailey Spencer, who had emergency appendectomy surgery just a week ago, is in the circle and goes the distance for the win.

Highlands "D" was superb, and the Birds, Brennah Dutcher, with the "big stick" tonight, she hit a double HARD off the left-center fence and then put the game on ice with a "towering" drive over the right-center fence for a 2-run dong.

Boone Co.'s Sydney Foster with another solid game at the plate. :thumb:

Congrats to the Lady Birds! They began the game with more enthusiasm and played with more resolve. It just appeared as if they wanted it more. It was a gutsy performance by Spencer and you can go an entire season without seeing two bombs hit as hard as Dutcher's! The top of Boone's lineup continued to struggle going just 1 for 14 in the game. Sydney Foster did have a good tournament. Of the 14 runs Boone scored, she drove in seven and scored three.
