  1. Congratulations to the Manual Crimsons! Nice write up in the paper. It looked like a fairly convincing win.

I found it interesting that the last time Manual beat Male they lost to Manual's first round playoff opponent this year - PRP.

Great win at this time of the year for Manual - PRP will come out armed for Ram - Manual will need to keep their focus to advance past PRP.

  2. ^ I agree. No where near No. 7 in the nation. Started the game sleeping, rolled over in the second quarter to block a punt... which resulted in NO points.... Down 14 - 3 at the half. My hats off to Cov Cath, played a very nice, inspired first half. They were helped by some key play calling as well. Really could have won this game if they wanted too..... I really mean that. I think they were waiting for X to make a charge.... X scores on its first two possesions of the second half to take lead 17 - 13. X goes for it on 4th and 1 at basically mid field with 9 minutes remaining in game. Cov Cath holds... Cov Cath is intercepted at X 21 to kill the drive. X responds with a 7 minute drive to seal the W and score again with under 3 minutes remaining.... 24 - 14 Tigers... Cov Cath on its next possession, from deep in its own territory, passes the ball right to a lineman/linebacker, and he rumbles for a score from ~15 yards out. 31- 14 Tigers.... So now you see just how close this game was..... Good Luck to Cov Cath during the playoffs. Zoller looked good in his first return after injury....

I don't get it, why wouldn't Cov Cath want to win the game??

From the game description and the summary Riverside gave X came our insipred and took advantage of the breaks - that's what good teams do. Cov. Cath wasn't picked to win, but came to play and showed the state they can play on a level with X. A great performance from an underdog.

  3. Time is the biggest issue I see. Parents and students are dividing their time and have to choose the best "value". Unfortunately, these kids, with parental direction, sometimes choose very early. It seems that most sports are available year round. Soccer, cross country, lacrosse, basketball, baseball, and I haven't even touched on the non sport extra ciricular.

When I was a kid.......football, basketball and spring baseball was the primary choices, so many more now it makes my head spin...... I can only imagine what it does to a student athlete who is trying to keep their grades high enough to get a serious look from a college.

  4. Are you suggesting a lineup of the St. X coaches wearing St. X apparel for the kid to identify the offending coach?

Actually a line-up would be very easy and clear this thing up quickly. The player says it was a coach, show him this years (or last years) media guide for St. X and let him look at all of the pictures and allow him to substatiate his claim. This is what the report should have done before breaking the story with the tone that it had.

I am in agreement with a lot of the discussion about it being about choice. You want to send your child to the school that will allow them to preform well academically, athletically and "fit in". Some focus on academics, some athletics, some about fitting in. I take the word "recruiting" to primarily focus on athletics in these discussions because all schools recruit academically, they should and they have to! If the public schools don't get academically strong students they continue to fight the battle of low test scores, oversight, etc. Parochial schools also recruit, I've seen plenty of billboards and received mailings from the Louisville Catholic boys schools. It is about choice - and money. It is evident that if the Catholic schools don't keep enrollment up -they don't get tuition and have a harder time providing the service parents contract with them to provide. I was also under the impression (although I'm not 100%) that federal funding is based on student enrollment in the (public) school system. It is about the money. Paying $8K /yr carries with it certain expectations, you want the best that $8,000 can buy - academically, socially, athletically. I understand. Getting into one of the magnets in Jefferson County can also carry with it certain perks - most colleges know who Male, Manual, Butler, etc. are.

IMO the allegation should be investigated a little further than a "did you or your staff do it"? to substatiate the claim. I also think that a full reporting of it should be made (maybe even in the CJ) bring it out into the light - a lie cannot survive if everyone can see it.

  5. Does the ranking program factor in the score? Does it help if teams run the score up? In the ancient past you could tell a team was beaten soundly with a score of 28-34 to 7-14. Now days it seems plenty of teams are racking up scores much higher, sometimes I realize it may be tough to truly compete and not score (Butler - St. X). Years ago, during a JV game we were drumming another team, the coach turned the entire game over to the players - we changed positions, called plays - it was a blast, but we didn't score that much.

  6. Great Message.

I agree with all that was said Bubba. Unfortunately you may be preaching to the choir. I have also witnessed the behavior you have written and after multiple games this season spoke with the AD. I haven't seen or heard them the last two weeks - it is amazing who is willing to yell encouragment when the negative is eliminated.

I think we as fans can make a difference, not through confrontation with unruly fans, but with letting those in authority know that we believe their behavior inappropriate and unacceptable. With enough comments I sure an AD or principal would throw out their own mother if she was the culprit.

There is strength in numbers - voice your opinion!

  7. Congratulations to the Cardinals!

I was stunned when I saw the box score. Not knowing Clark Co.'s program it's good to hear the team has been able to maintain the focus and bring it all together for this game.

From the box score it appeared as though Matthews had a resepectable night and his percentage was good. It was also obvious that SC doesn't have a running game. The turn-overs apparently played a big part, very impressive to read above in the thread about the stop at the goal line.

    Clark -Build on this success.:thumb:

Shelby - Don't give up keep puhing to improve.:fight:

  8. It was my first time there, fun game to watch. Centre looked to be in control most of the time. Fun stadium, good crowd - parents weekend. I liked the fact the coach yanked any player that got a personal foul. It's a small enough stadium I even got to hear the lecture - something along the lines of we expect more..... Very impressive to hear that type of coaching.

  9. Alex Matthews is posting impressive numbers, but to look the other numbers in the box score. The percent completed was about the same as Manual's Harness. Matthews threw the ball twice as many times to produce the 555. Harness got 268 with 13 throws - seems very comparable to me. Manual had the second dimension, that Shelby Co. could not produce, the run - adding 355 to the total. Looks like Manual had a few miscues with fumbles that Shelby didn't have probably accounting for the close score. Shelby appears to be a one dimensional team, living (and dieing) by the pass. They do it very well and appear to have made it a very exciting game. Too bad they couldn't both win....

  10. You make a good point Strike3. Education is what is is about, although I also see (and wonder) about some of the programs that just plain struggle. Shawnee and Atherton in Louisville are prime examples. The have had good athletes, as evidenced by success in other sports, but football seems to flounder.

The lack of success may breed lack of success. With marginal coaching and a general lack of motivation it is tough to get over the hump. A combination of a coach who is not only a good tactician but a good motivator, student-athletes that are self-motivated and willing to lead the others (encourage) on the team and lastly a good booster program willing to invest money and time into the players and the program.

The coaches can only do so much, but a partnership between the coaches and the boosters can let the players know adults are interested in their future (on and off the field).

If the coaches can't (or won't motivate) look to the players, if the players can't self motivate look to the boosters, if all three contribute their best, however marginal it is, the team will find success enough to build a program.

As far as pulling the plug, that's may be too tough of a call for an school adminstrator who generally follow the adage " if it ain't broke....."

  11. I don't know much about the individuals involved with the situation is Jessamine. I feel for the players who may loose the opportunities provided by continuity and focus..... although I do think from adversity grows greatness....This is a great lesson for the players involved, you either quit and take the position you couldn't impact the season or you redouble your efforts, work harder, work as a team, and take all you can from a not-so-great situation.
