  1. Johnston will be back next week. The injury to his knee wasn't as bad as it looked last Friday night. Actually, he could have played this week, but they thought that another week would put him at 100% for next week's game against Daviess County. This is what I hear from a good source. With Johnston and Duncan out, two play-makers, we'll see where this football team is now. Christian County is a good football team and playing at home, it's going to be hard for the Devils to come out with a win, but with that said I still say they will win by 6.

  2. There are so many great backs at the high school level, and I think that is what the question is asking? But to say S Alexander was the best in high school is probably wrong. He has developed into a real nice player in the pros, but to say he was the best during his high school days is a stretch. My pick would be either Joe Casey or Paul Hornung. Then my homer picks are Owensboro boys Mark Higgs '82, he was lights out, and Drew Hall '92. But considering some of these backs you could say how GREAT are they, they couldn't win a state title??? Everyone has an opinion

  3. Their defense was very sad last year, so with the returning players I don't know how much better they can be. If Cole Sturgeon decides to play football, he may help them in the backfield, he has pretty good speed. I remember him playing youth football, and if I'm not mistaken, he broke his hip. So this kid could be soft. I know he hasn't played since he was 10, and I think he's 15 now.

  4. Colonel, now you can try pull this off with the other posters if you want, that's your business, but the bottom line is that Josh Hayden was hurt last year, that's why he didn't run the ball against Henderson. And the Johnston kid played strictly defense. And if you're a Henderson football fan, you should already know that. Both Johnston and Hayden run the football real well and they both run 4.5. Reminds me of a couple of your players last year. The tantum that you had in the back field.

  5. Well Henderson fan, they say one kid doesn't make much of a difference on a football team, but in Owensboro's case; it did last year in the second game against Henderson. The Johnston kid was out with a severe sprained ankle, the same kid that took over the game defensively at Henderson. I've been watching this kid since youth football. That's what he does, completely takes over games. And I'll let you in on something else: this kid CAN run the football. He runs a 45.4-40. The only reason he hasn't been running it is because, I would say, they have kids like Hall. But with no Hall there anymore, looks like it's Neil Johnston time now. My only concern is, as a Owensboro fan, him playing both ways is going to take alot away from his defense. There is no doubt in my mind that he is one of the best linebackers in the state. C.J. second team defense last year. What else can I say?

  6. Owensboro Senior will bring their guns cocked and loaded this year. With 20 seniors and a good part of them having varsity experience, they will lead the team in the right direction. With Neil Johnston and Blake Roberts leading the defense at linebackers, Josh Hayden and Wayne Duncan will hold the passing game to very little. They have Jermaine Dumas and Zac Dunehiy, and with these players they will once again be a strong defense. Look forward to the ofense of side of the ball beating teams up, they will have Austin Moss at Qb, which should give them the right leadership. They have their whole Ofensive line back intact with Dumas, Duneghiy, Rob Durham, Blake Hilliard and Ryan Smith. Basically they return the whjole offense except for Rb Nick Hall who rushed for 1700 yards a season ago, but will be quickly replaced by a committee of backs led by Johnston, Hayden, and Yorel Shemwell. They will more then make up for it. Also with returning recievers in Duncan, Zach Cannon and Josh Royal. All players mentioned are seniors and except for Shemwell. Look for this team to turn some heads for real and meet up with B.G. in the regional final, and moving on to play the Highland Bluebirds for the 5A state. Good Luck to all teams because the men will be seperated from the boys in 3 weeks!:fire:
