  1. Cats Pause gets its info from local sportswriters from the regions.

There are alot of sports writers that must not watch girls basketball. The person who did the 12th region must have been asleep for over the last year. In the preview they talk about Southwestern returning a senior contributer named Heather Overton. Heather did not play last year and will not play this year while she still recovers from a near fatal car accident. Her story made the 27 WKYT news last year. Extremly disappointing reporting.

  2. I agree oldballcoach. The 12th region rankings are very flawed also. Anna Martin is clearly at worst the 2nd best player in Kentucky this year. Rowe is also a great player. I would not put much into any of the Cats Pause rankings, especially on the girls side.

Well said Jesse James. Martin will be a Miss Basketball candidate. I also agree the 12th region is flawed from top to bottom. These rankings along with Bolus rankings at least on the girls side are very rarely correct.

  3. If it is like some of the other regions it is a huge joke. I dont know who ranks players and teams but huge glaring omissions and misranked players. The biggest example I can think of is the 11th region where Elizbeth Horn is ranked ahead of Anna Martin, Courtney Clifton, And Ebony Rowe. Dont get me wrong Horn is a fine ballplayer and even better person but those three are better basketball players who will go D1 and contribute at the next level. There are several others from different regions to many to list. It is a shame that a publication like Cats Pause does not do a better job checking some of the info. Of course this is just one persons opinion.

  4. There is not a chance that she'll be better than Waters was.

Dont get me wrong I agree Waters was/is a great talent that played on a lot of bad teams. If she would have had more talent around here she may have been able to develop more parts of her game. Hammond in my opinion will be a more rounded player with perimeter skills.

  5. How do you know that I am not? I will tell you this, you would be very surprised as to who listens to what I think. I do not claim to know it all. I do know basketball at the college level. Ask someone who will be truthful with you and see what the overall consensus is and see how far I am off.

I agree with Big Impact you are a legend in your own mind, who lives in a dreamworld that really does not know squat about girls basketball. I will choose to wait and see where all these girls play at the next level. The only ones who have committed so far is Salyers to a D1 school in Morehead State and Mitchell to IUPUI.

  6. Listen I am not putting down any kid. I am just giving a opinion of talent. I agree that Hammonds is overated at this point. Lots look and my guess is that Louisville is gonna take a chance that her work ethic gets better. Saylers is a nice player, but I just think its gonna be hard to come in and play the 4 when you have never played it in your life, then to step in at a D1 program is just a stretch. Mitchell is solid, not great but solid. Morrow will get better and will benefit alot at Wayne. Pittman is young and will only get better. Brown needs to get stronger.

Hammonds will get better she is young. She has the potential to be the best the 12th region has ever seen. Dreamland should be a college scout He/She have everyones strenghs and weaknesses pegged.

  7. I have saw all the players play. The best post player is Mitchell. The second best is either Brown or Saylers. Pittman, Hammond are not true posts. I saw Hammond a few times last year and once in Louisville this summer and she was not impressive. Granted she has upside being 6' 2", but that only goes so far. Morrow I saw as a freshman and she has quite a bit of work to do. I think Saylers will be a good college player, but she needs to play in a slow down game to be sucessful. All have great futures ahead. Its the education that counts.[/quote

Good Comments. Mitchell is good having to play at East this year will be a big step for her. Salyers is better suited for a slower game much like Brown. For all of them to be successful at the next level strength and speed will be the numer one thing for them to work on I believe.

  8. I was over at Lincoln County the other day and talking to an assistant coach who told me that Western Kentucky's coach was coming to a conditioning/open gym to watch the Brown kid play. I also heard that she has lost a few pounds and will be able to run the floor better.

I was given an article from the newspaper over in Mt. Vernon that said the Hammond kid had been offered a scholarship from the University of Louisville this summer and was told by an assistant coach at Rockcastle, that a coach from Western Kentucky had been to a recent conditioning/open gym. I have a good source in Bowling Green that tells me Western his making her a top priority for the class of 2011. I believe she just turned 15 and is now 6'2". UK is also in the hunt and the coach said an assitant from UK would be coming down for a visit in the near future.

I saw all these players play this summer, Hammond, Pittman, Morrow, Salyers, Brown and the Mitchell kid now at East Jessamine. There is no doubt in what I saw that the person who plays the "post" best is the Mitchell girl. The Morrow girl has a long way to go, a long way to compete with these others.

What makes for the best player? Is it statistics? Is it the one who best plays the role of a traditional post player? Is it the best athlete? Is it the one who has taken their team to most sweet sixteens? Is the one who plays for the best Divison I program?

I guess we'll just have to let the season play out and the good news is that after a few years of mediocrity, the 12th region is much deeper and improved and hopefully will be able to end a dry spell of advancing in the sweet sixteen come March.

Big Impact that was a very informative post thank you. I agree with you that Brown and Hammond will go D1 when they graduate. I also believe that Mitchell is going to IUPUI which is D1. Therefore you have 4 post players from the 12th region that will play at the D1 level in the coming years. That tells me there is alot of good b-ball being played in that region.

  9. The poll is public. Everyone can see who you voted for slink. Salyers is a good player but not as mobile as Brown and Hammond. I think thats where she will struggle at the next level, mobility and at her heighth( I think around a true 6ft with her shoes off) she will be forced to play the 4 and thats gonna push her out on the floor where she has no game.

Strong words to say about a kid. She will sign a D1 scholorship in november and is in my opinion the best post player in the region. I believe that she will be a fine 4 at the next level. Plus I heard a few weeks back that she was a goveners scholar also. I also believe that Brown and Hammond are great ball players who will go D1 if that is what they want. Cant wait to see some basketball in a few months.

  10. All around I think Brown from Lincoln is the top post player in the 12th at this point. She shoots it better from the outside. Hammond while not a true post is next best.

Interesting selection dont you think? In another thread about Rockcastle County you stated that Hammond was the best. You need to stick to one choice.

  11. The Hammond kid is listed in Rick Bolus' rankings as one of the top 25 players in the state and in some high school blogs as one of the top 5 players in the class of 2011. I don't know if this makes her the best player in the 12th region this year, but her stock is rising and most college coaches see her as the best Division I prospect in the 12th. I just read in the local paper where she was in Louisville for an unofficial visit last week and has been offered a scholarship from the University of Louisville. It said Louisville's coach Waltz has made her a priorty recruiting target for her senior class.

I also think the Brown kid from Lincoln County and Fothergill from Southwestern should be given some consideration.

Fothergill is Southwesterns point guard she is not a post player. Granted she is one of the best point guards in the area.

  12. Its tough when you have to scoot between Southeastern Ohio and Slate Branch. Those Southwestern booster officers are doing a great job. Have a nice day. See you on the 23rd.

By the way, Rock is gonna be tough and Sarah is a great girl. Matter of fact she is the best big girl in the 12th region. Dont you agree?

Not quite sure where that one came from. I have never been to southeastern Ohio.

Looks like Dreamland is trying to break rule #5.

I also believe that the 12th Region has alot of good big girls but if I had to chose the best I would say it was a 4 way battle between Megan Pittman, Kendra Brown, Stephanie Salyers, and Sara Hammond.

  13. That was not what I was talking about. But you could have at least come up with something other than what was on the thread in the football forum. See you Jan. 23 or when Southwestern plays Lincoln in football.

Sad Sad little man. I will not make it to the SW Lincoln Football game. I will be watching Highlands and Cove Cath. But if my travels allow me I will be there to watch SW Girls beat Lincoln Co. this year. Getting the thread back on topic. Rockcastle will be one of the 3-4 best teams in the region and Hammond will be one of the best players no doubt.

  14. Saw a great Football game last night in Lincoln County.

Ill bet you did. Tell me the specifics. Lets see if the game I watched was the same as the one you watched. As a matter of fact there were a few things happened that if you were there you will know. Im all ears.

Are you talking about Lincoln giving the game away by missing field goals? or better yet the couple of times they stopped Washington only to get 15 yard penaltys for unsportsmalike conduct to keep there drives alive. :dancingpa

  15. The Hammond girl was named MVP of Blue Chip Camp in Louisville and played on 17 and UnderBlue Chip team at Run for the Roses Tournament, along with Mathis sisters from Iroqouis, Alex Jones of E-town, Avery Jones of Manual. She has been offered a scholarship at the University of Louisville. She remains uncommitted at this time, however, is making a unofficial visit to Louisville this weekend at the UK vs UofL football game.

That is great! She is a special talent and a good kid from what I have obseved and have been told.

  16. I got you being a die hard Southwestern fan oldballcoach. Orange and Blue. Deep ingrained. You know to much. Im very relaxed, just waiting on Jan. 23rd.

Wrong, I dont even reside in pulaski county. I make my living on the road and central Ky. is my area. I do love watching sports though whenever I get the chance. Saw a great Football game last night in Lincoln County.:dancingpa
