If St Johns knee is not bothering him, Id say SL by 20, otherwise it could be much closer as SL is offensively challenged.
-
Corbin by 18 only because Coach P lets the bench get some playing time, otherwise Id say 25-30 points. LCA has no answer for J.Crawford and Manns inside. There press is good but not as good as Lex Cath's. LCA does have a good little freshman (Barnette) that can spot up and shoot the 3 as good as anyone but a hand in his face should nuetralize him.
-
Prediction...Corbin wins by 20+. Looking ahead til Saturday, Corbin wins by 20+ over Lex Christian in the Nissan on Nicholasville Shootout at Lex Cath.
-
Congratulations to the Hounds in both Vasity and JV. Hounds won them both.
-
LC just beat much better teams than Corbin this past weekend ??
Lex Cath just beat GRC. Corbin just beat South Laurel. Id say both of those are pretty good teams so Corbin and Lex Cath can expect a hard fought game from each other. As far as I know, the only common opponent has been GRC so lets ask a GRC fan who might have the edge between Corbin and Lex Cath.

JV game is currently on schedule prior to varsity game at 3:00pm. Im picking the Hounds by 10-12 in this one. This game is definitely a big one for the Hounds and they are eager to play good teams.
-
If Corbin is able to get a couple of other players from its bench to give consistent play, they will be much more difficult to beat. In order to win at RUPP, you will have to go 8 or 9 deep.

I watched the KC vs Gaffney game and part of the SL vs Boyle Co. game.
IMO, Gaffney got a raw deal. The game was not called equally on both ends. For example, if it was a block when KC was on "D" then it was a foul when Gaffney was on "D". The three officials were Brent Gray, Jeff Ely, and Ken Catron. I'll give you one guess as to which two officials made most of the calls that went KC's way. Don't get me wrong KC had to make shots, but they were not the better team in my opinion.
Boyle was totally overmatched by SL. Officiating made no difference.
Yes, I saw the same things as you. The officiating in the KC/ Gaffney game was okay by 2 of the guys but 1 older guy (CK) was horrendous. He alone cheated Gaffney from being able to contend for the win. It is always an embarrassment to the home crowd when he is calling any games.Im dissappointed in the Varsity Club for allowing this guy to officiate games. I doubt that Gaffney will return to participate in the tournament...I cant blame them.

Matchups are the only way to compare.

yes and what about that 41 point loss to Corbin. There was way too much hype and pressure put on this team over the summer and preseason. Does GRC play South Laurel this year, if so, Id like to see that one with St John pitted against Zollo. St John is age eligible to be a Sophomore...just turned 17.Clark is really young with the heart and soul of the team sophomores. Their ranking in BGP at #16 is about right. They will move up as those sophomores get closer to being juniors. The pre-season hype that had them at #4 or #5 was a little too much to expect so quick. They may sneak back into the Top 10, but not until mid-Feb or so.Comparitive scores for those who like them. They don't really mean alot to be honest, but a few weeks ago Elliott beat GRC by 21 and tonight Scott beats them by 20. Kinda things that makes one go hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm........

Sorry GRC fans but after watching Corbin play GRC, I'm going with Scott Co. but not as lopsided as one might of first thought early on in the preseason. GRC should get better by March and thats what really counts. Scott Co may actually slip as all of the pre season hype causes more individuality to manifest itself on a team of "stars".A fight of the Cardinals. This game will be at Memorial and on TV Ch 27. Thursday 12/18 at 7:00. I already have my tickets...Thoughts and predictions on this game?

IMO...the officials allowed way too much contact on both ends of the floor. Id say that Corbin wins the rematch at Corbin by 40+ as more consistent officiating wont allow for all of the muggings. Of course, Corbin will have to make their foul shots too. Last nights game would have been much more lopsided if Corbin would have made their free throws.

Corbin has a very good basketball. The final score may have been unexpected but not the final outcome...Corbin wins.
Agreed...Clark will get better but so will Corbin when it gets all of its players which adds depth to the bench. Manns, Hopkins, Watkins and others will make Corbin a much deeper team.

Maybe he"ll go to Scott Co like everybody else...

This is very true. Any of the schools could simply substitute the Civic Center in place of their school. The Civic Center could take care of the whole event on behalf of the host school and pay the school a percentage of the revenue. This is truly a no brainer. Not so sure it is a dead issue. I believe it takes only a vote of the member schools of the region to amend any policy. If you look at location, etc....Williamsburg, Whitley, South, Corbin, Lynn Camp, North Laurel, Barbourville, and Knox Central are all pretty close to the new civic center. That would be 8 votes alone. Then throw in the smaller schools who could use the revenue and never get to host the regional anyway...Pineville, Red Bird, Jackson Co, OBI and that would be a strong majority. With consolidation the number of schools in Harlan county decreased so only Harlan County, Harlan Ind and Middlesboro would be distantly challenged. Of course, who knows how the schools would vote. I do believe they will have the option in the near future. One has to remember the majority rules. -
Isnt Pikeville a much smaller school than Corbin and if so, this shouldnt even be close. The JV and reserves ought to be in alot during the 2nd half.
-
Corbin also has Blake Hendrickson (Sr) who will be more aggressive on offense this year to go along with his strong defensive and rebounding game. Look for him to get alot of minutes. Corbin has its best team in many years and are expecting to be in RUPP this March.
-
Is this list of Corbin's seniors correct? (There seems to be a lot of good senior athletes who gave up football.)
Anthony Barton - OL
Michael Campbell - FB, DE
Zach Chadwell - OL, DL
Lance Freeman - QB, DB
Kevin French - DE, WR
Coltin Hanson(?) - LB
Jesse Hayden - OL, DL
Kyle McAuliffe - OL, DE
Jimmy Rossi - LB, WR
Corey Sewell - WR, DB
Dakota Taylor - OL, DL
You can add Randy Grimes - DL, OL
-
You both make good points. But you never know. We will have to wait until then lights come on at Campbell field.
While Im sure Aaron has been promised that he's the next Jeremy Shockey, my guess is that he will be asked to block about 99% of the time and wont touch the football unless he knocks it loose while playing defense. I hope Im wrong for Aaron's sake!

Corbin Varsity beat Owen Co by 20+ and Lex Christian (for the 2nd time in 2 weeks) by 10 but didnt seem that close.
Corbin JV won by 30+ over East Jessamine and had huge size advantage with Stewart and Hopkins playing JV and play Knox Central tonight at 6:00. The varsity plays June Buchannon at 6:00 tonight. Corbin or Scott Co have to be the favorites at this point according to the "observers".

Which teams will advance to the final 4?
-
I do not know what they are returning but that Largo team last year barely beat Corbin up at Lexington Catholic. That kinda gives you an idea of what Corbin has. They wound up pulling away in the last minute or two to win by 10 or 11. They lost 6'11" Maurice Sutton and their guard who avg about 20 ppg. It was a pretty good game. You can watch it on wazoosports.com.
Yes. Corbin was down 1 point with just over 1 minute to go but 2 costly turnovers in the backcourt and then fouling trying to get the ball back cost them the game. Largo made their free throws.
-
Clay has a transfer or two from Buckhorn who have joined their team. I think one of them was a big kid...maybe Zach Gay about 6'6. So you may want to move the Tigers into the top spot if this proves to be the case.
Corbin has Lee Crawford a 5'10 guard who can play the wing or the point and Blake Hendrickson a 6'3 athlete who can rebound, run and jump to provide good minutes for the Hounds. Both those guys will be seniors and have played alot of quality time for Coach P.
The Hounds will have a 8 - 10 man rotation this year that will wear down alot of teams late in the game. The Hounds have already played and won alot of games against good teams this summer in AAU as well as school teams. They will be much better than last year.
-
That is impressive. Curious whether he was held back a year. Is he really 15, or 16?
Held Back! what does that mean? KHSAA and AAU in this instance, set the playing eligibility rules. If a player doesnt start 1st grade until a year after he is first eligible, isnt that the same as repeating a grade somewhere along the line. Why yes it is... By the way, Ryan is 15 until this Fall.

If it werent for the Hounds' lackluster performance in the 1st half, this game should have been very lopsided (depending on subbing). LCA does have some very good players and are well coached. And no, the lackluster performance wasnt due entirely to LCAs play but was a contributor.
