Corbin by 35

wow, I sure didnt see that one coming. The Cards must have had an off night. They are still a good team and this may re-focus them as theyre getting ready to start tournament play.
-
It was an ugly game due to all of the fouls committed. Lynn Camp had 3 players to foul out as well as a few fans who should have been thrown out for verbal abuse on the refs. I am not sure what benefit either team gets out of playing this game, especially Corbin.
-
I didn't hear the stats but nice win on senior night for the Redhounds. FCI takes on Clay County tomorrow. If anyone could add the particulars of tonight's game, be my guest.
Well Hank, to begin with Corbin's inside game was way too much for FCI and when Coach P decided to press FCI, it was all over but the final margin at that point. Corbin's players all made sure to get their buddy Travis Cowden, plenty of shots which he knocked down to go along with his rebounds and a steal in his farewell SR game. It was very enjoyable to watch him hit those 3's tonight. Coach P is to be commended!

Les,
Obviously your comments are correct...I agree. I have no problem with coaches scouting at all but some or all of SL's coaches have been to every Corbin game practically. What on earth can you learn now that you didnt on the first dozen or so games that you watched and took notes on? Heck, I wouldnt be surprised to see the SL coaches show up at the district tourney with shaved heads and wearing a UT Vols shirt.
-
And maybe the SL coaches spent too much time at the Corbin/Middlesboro game the night before worrying about the Hounds when they should have been worrying about Clinton Co.? Its just a thought.
-
Crawford had a nice game with 33 according the the radio. Johnson had 18 with a nice alley oop and breakway dunk. Green led Middlesboro with 22.
Crawford also had a bunch of rebounds to go along with those points. He looked very good tonight. Solid game from Josh Smith and A Manns too. Madison Johnson had 2 dunks and a 3rd just missed. Congrats also goes to Coach West for another JV win by a very large margin.
-
Hounds take care of Jags easily and another win for Coach West and the JV squad. The JV game was way too loosely called on both ends.

Congratulations to South Laurel on a well executed game plan. Corbin just had an off night shooting from the outside and that was their main achilles in addition to the good defense of SL.
Congratulations to Corbin's Coach West and his JV team on defeating SL by 15 prior to the Varsity game.

I don't believe there is pressure on any team to win this game. Seedings mean nothing — South was a No. 2 seed last year and won the district. Maybe a little bragging rights, but to be honest, the main thing both teams care about is winning the region title.:thumb:
There is definitely pressure on you when youre a winning program and you lose 2 in a row by relatively big margins as well as your district/region enemy has already beaten you 2 in a row also.
-
There is no pressure on Corbin to win this game but alot of pressure on SL and that is why Corbin will win. The pressure will be to turn around and play (and win) a renewed NL team the very next night that will feel like it has a very good chance to steal a "W" from Corbin.
-
I guarantee you that neither team is thinking that the game is going to be a "cake walk". SL just lost 2 in a row and will be focused on getting a win. Corbin remembers losing 4 out of 5 last season to SL, which should really be a big motivator. Corbin also stays focused on getting to RUPP and wins by 9.
-
Corbin was up 28 when Coach P began subbing down. The JV won another one too. Both squads are playing well. Big test again on Tuesday at SL.
-
Who else is playing besides Smith, Hoover, West, Jones and Duncum? I think that's all that were on the JV team last night.
Im not sure.
-
I just see five freshmen on the roster. Did they move some eighth graders up for the freshman team?
I think that a couple of players joined the freshman team later.
-
My theory on that is... with the addition of another assistant coach this year,Coach P was able to appoint 1 coach each to both the freshman and jv teams. Previously, one coach had to take care of both teams. This seems to have been a good move. Why did Coach West have to take over the JV team from Coach McDaniel?? -
The margin was up to 36 when Coach P started subbing late in the 3rd. The bench did get some valuable playing time. Coach West won another JV game pretty convincingly too. Hes doing a good job with those guys too.
-
Corbins' JV won another one today too. Breathitt did have a couple of good 3 point shooters. Corbins JV has the luxury of playing against a very good varsity team every day in practice. Coach West is doing a good job with them.
-
Maybe Coach P should hire someone to grab the Green Folder from Coach Denny and take off running. Lord knows, he will not catch anyone on foot.:sssh:
I thought is was assistant J.R. in attendance today and Roscoe had the night off.
Denny was sitting in the middle of Bobcat fans behind the bench. I guess they were watching from different angles and hoping 2 heads are better than 1.
-
South Laurel's coaching staff must think the Hounds are playing pretty good too as their assistant, R Denny was in attendance with his notepad for the umpteenth time this season.
-
Where was the offense for both teams? This score sounds like a football score almost.
-
This was clearly a match up of David vs. Goliath. Tonight, David didn't have his slingshot as the story in the good book goes. Hats off to the Generals though. Although outmatched, and virtually having no chance, these kids never gave up. Corbin is just on another level. When Corbin is on, you may find 4 or 5 teams that can challenge them in the state. Jackson County is breaking in a new staff and a new rotation. Brighter days will be ahead for them. I remember Coach Truitt when he played and I have no doubt he'll have Jackson contending for the 49th in short time. Although they were never a powerhouse, Keith Hays was a fine coach. Truitt learned from him.
Tonight was a fun game to watch if you were from Corbin. As stated earlier, when arguably the best player in the region scores 4 points and plays limited minutes and you win by 66 which easily could have been more, you have a dangerous ball club. I was impressed with Josh Smith. He was like Jodie Meeks tonight and the rim had to look like tossing ping pong balls into a swimming pool. You know what you are getting from the starters. The bench impressed me. Blake Hendrickson and Luke Stewart played excellent off the bench as did Caleb Watkins. I think Watkins can bring that football toughness to the Hounds as Brad Lawson and Clint Cashen did in the past. He'll be able to rough people up and overpower folks once he gets into the swing of things. The Hopkins kid is another player that will be a force before it's all said and done. He has the size of Crawford and touch of Johnson. Unfortunately, experience trumps all of that. His time is coming though. Look out for him.
Agreed. I think by Tourny time, both Watkins and Hopkins will be able to give Coach P some valuable minutes that will help the Hounds and be playing on Saturday in RUPP. You must have 8 or 9 players to depend on in Tournament play to advance.

Probably do win convincingly but lets not forget about playing Jackson Co first.
