Great recap hoopsnut. I watched Villa in their last game and was duely impressed. If I am correct they play one of the top teams in the state this weekend which is going to be tough on those tired legs. Good luck to both teams in the upcoming games. Sounds like a fun district tourney.
It will be a fun district tourney. The Lady Crusaders will be fine, but their schedule doesn't get any easier for the balance of the season. They host Brossart tonight, travel to NDA on Thursday, host Lexington Christian next Saturday afternoon and then will host the 34th district tournament the following week. They will have been well tested before beginning district play. I believe Villa travels to Louisville next week to take on CAL.

Senior Night didn't go so well for the Lady Crusaders. Villa controlled this one throughout. I'm pretty sure they won every quarter. Kreutzer, Schroer and Case came up huge tonight (49 of the 53 points). St. Henry played very listless for the better part of 3 quarters. Villa got up 6-0 early, sagged deeper into their zone defense, and dared St. Henry to shoot from outside. They were up 10-3 after the 1st quarter and 24-15 at the half. Other than Shannon O'Daniel (5 three's), St. Henry did not have a good shooting night. As a result, the zone became more compact, thus not allowing much room for interior work on St. Henry's part. I expected a close game, but I would have thought that Villa's schedule wouldn't have prepared them too well for this game however, they were the better team tonight. St. Henry's seemed to lack defensive intensity for a good part of the game and their press did not bother Villa too much tonight. Kreutzer led the way in the first half and Schroer stepped up big in the second half. Case was consistent in both halves. Villa did not have one single sub stitution in this game. Case, Cook, Kreutzer, Schroer and Stoll all played 32 minutes. Needless to say, the Villa faithful and staff were exuberant after the game. If both teams can advance to the district championship game, the rematch could be quite a chess match.

What is St Henry's conflict?
St. Henry had to postpone an earlier game date with Villa due to weather. Since St. Henry and Ryle had already played in the Titan's Christmas Clash at Mercer County (and Villa is a district game), they dropped that game and moved the Villa Reschedule to 2/10. St. Henry and NCC were also scheduled to play on 1/29, but NCC was marching their way to the All A state championship that weekend, so that game was dropped since those two teams had already played in the 9th Region All A. I'm assuming that left an open game for both NCC and Ryle.

For the record, I would have a hard time saying anyone is the greatest athlete in the state of Ky. Too many different sports to choose from. (No offense to Jantzen, a fine soccer and basketball player).
You can add 400M Dash State champion (2008) to her basketball and soccer accolades.

Abby Janszen - St. Henry
**Severall double / doubles this season and I believe she also had one triple / double this year. I think she will most likely get college offers for both Basketball and Soccer.

Newport Central Catholic 60 St. Henry 41
St. Henry 15 9 4 13 41
Newport Central Catholic 19 16 19 6 60
9th Region All A Tournament at Bellevue
St. Henry (11-5) -- O'Daniel 3, Fugate 5, Janszen 14, Hoff 5, Spencer 8, Knaley 6.
Newport Central Catholic (12-2) -- Theim 12, Bartels 12, Sandfoss 5, Fryer 8, Buchanan 2, Ciafardini 3, Tabor 18.
I don't see Taylor Gamm listed in the Box Score for St. Henry. I'm assuming she played, so was she in foul trouble, or did NCC do a good job of shutting her down?
-
Breds played a great 3rd quarter to pull away to a big lead. This was a very physical game with alot of turnovers.
I didn't get to see the game. What happened in the 3rd quarter? I heard it was 27-21 in favor of NCC with about 2 minutes to go in 2nd quarter. Next thing that I heard is that it was 48-26 favor of NCC in 3rd quarter. What caused the explosion?
-
9th Region All A championship game. Who wins? NCC is a prohibitive favorite. What does St. Henry have to do to claim the title? A NCC score in the 40's would be a positive for the Lady Cru. Keeping their turnovers in the 15-17 range would also be a help. It should be a pretty intense matchup.
-
Not exactly a picturesque game, but the Lady Crusaders will gladly take the W.
-
St. Henry is playing their fifth game in six days. They're sure to be a little leg weary. St. Henry should win, but if Tibbs gets some help tonight, it could be very interesting.
-
Ryle was led by Jenna Crittendon with 26 points and 13 rebounds.
I heard she scored the first 13 points of the game for Ryle. Sounds like the Lady Raiders came to play today. St. Henry was apparently plagued by the turnover (26) bug.
-
Should be another good matchup. It will be interesting to see if Janszen & Crittendon go head to head again. Last year Janszen by far had the better game. Taylor Gamm will need to stay out of foul trouble for St. Henry. If St. Henry can keep this game in the 40's I like their chances. Third game in three days, but both teams will be ready. I look for 4-5 point game either way.

The KHSAA site has since been corrected. Lady Crusaders led 33-23 at the half and outscored them 28-6 in the second half. Lady Crusaders face St. Patrick on Tuesday and then head to Mercer County for the Titans Christmas Clash next week. They open up with Lincoln County. I believe Notre Dame and Ryle will also be particpating, along with Elizabethtown, Madison Central and others.
-
Great 1-2 punch Janszen and Gamm. St. Henry will need another scorer to emerge for them to beat some of the top teams. Best of luck Lady Cru!
There are a few candidates who could emerge as another consistent threat. It will be interesting to see if any of them seize the opportunity and step forward. The Cru is talented, but very inexperienced at this point. It will be fun to see how far they're able to progress by season's end. If they give consistent effort like they gave against Assumption, it should be another successful season.
-
Lady Crusaders get a nice win to tipoff the season.

Did I hear correctly that St Henry middle school has dropped their girls' team?
Are you referring to St. Henry Grade School or one of the other feeder schools? Which grade is supposedly involved?
-
Last year's seniors leave a void, but there is plenty of returning talent to build around. They will be a little smaller this year, but will have more team speed. They will be deep at the guard position, and by mid-season the inside game should have depth as well. Early in the season several girls will be getting their feet wet at the varsity level, and they will have to grow up in a hurry. They open up with Assumption. They travel to Mercer County for a tournament over Christmas break. Their last seven regular season games look like this:
NCC
at Highlands
at Boone
Ryle
Brossart
at Notre Dame
Lexington Christian Academy
The 34th district will very challenging as well. They may not be able to better last year's 19-10 record, but by district and regional time, they will be tournament tested and they should be able to compete with anyone.
-
The volleyball match is Notre Dame's home game this year and they have moved it to TMC. It will certainly be a great atmosphere, much like the match last year at St. Henry which NDA took 3-0. NDA will be tough to beat, but it can be done. The Crusaders will have to block and defend with everything they have. The soccer match will be a fantastic game. I look for that one to be decided in a shootout.
-
Will any of the previous staff be staying on, or will Coach Levandusky have to assemble an entirely new staff? That would seem like a pretty tall order just 4 weeks from the start of practice.
-
The St. Henry Girls making what has been up to this year, a rare appearance in the Regional tournament. Then taking that one step further and garnering the program's first victory in the Regional tournament.
-
I couldn't agree more. The pressure on the SH guards will be the difference.
The ref's seem to be pretty whistle happy from what I witnessed. Early foul trouble on key player's could be a factor.
NCC was the first team to really press St. Henry this season. At that time the Crusaders were not prepared for the relentless pressure brought on by NCC. Since that game, St. Henry has faced a handful of teams that have pressed. None of these teams have pressured the Crusaders like NCC did in the All "A", but just the same, those games should help the Crusaders be better prepared this time. In the All "A" game St. Henry constantly dribbled and passed directly into trapping situations. A lot of those passes were lob passes which are definitely a no-no against NCC's defense. If their guards play with their head up and if the receivers step to the pass, the turnovers should be cut down dramatically. Playing on a larger floor this time should help as well. The Crusaders did a good job of dictating the tempo of the game against Ryle. They can't let NCC do the same to them on Friday night. If they do, it could get ugly for the Crusaders. Let's go Crusaders!! Stay focused and take them one game at a time.
-
If you're a TRUE fan of basketball you embrace the product. The boys foul or travel just about every time down the floor as well, but you're right, the pace is most often times quicker. There are more athletes per team with the boys, but there are some tremendous athletes on the girls side as well, and THEY'RE JUST AS ENJOYABLE TO WATCH, even when they're not your kid.
-
Any predictions on 9th region semi's. NCC won big 77-48 earlier in the season but this is not the same St. Henry team.
St. Henry was manhandled by NCC in the All "A". It was an extremely physical game. In that game St. Henry had 35+ turnovers. Both teams have improved since that game. If St. Henry can keep the turnover total under 20 this time, it's going to be a ball game. If they can keep the total under 15, I think they'll win. It's a tall order anyway you look at it.

Sanker is back. She played (and played well) last night in St. Henry's win (56-46) over Brossart. Sanker didn't start, but I believe she scored 23 points. She was wearing a wrist brace. I believe she also was out due to a concussion prior to breaking her wrist? A little rusty in shooting her first few foul shots, but she got it dialed in as the game progressed.
