  1. Bourbon was just down 13 at half... but the athleticism of the cardinals was too much int he final two stanzas... especially Jones inside, 12 of his 14 came in the second half...

I'm in belief that the 40th district next year will be more wide open, and Bourbon certainly will not go 2-24 again...

Special shoutout to those who listened to me this year on radio, makes my "job" fun... look forward to next season...

  2. The Berea-Nicholas Co. game will be covered on 90.7 FM The Wind tonight, starting around 7:15....

Should be interesting to see how they do without those two... Willoughby is a pretty good ballplayer (averaged over 17 ppg, including 20 last Thursday night against Paris), but they have a freshman in Kyle Campbell who is averging over 16 a game...

The problem with Nicholas has been balanced scoring, it's been Willoughby, Campbell, and little else... losing a piece of that puzzle isn't going to help them next week, but Berea only has one win... should be interesting how things play out...

  3. This game was covered on 90.7 FM The Wind, with Johnny Livengood (me) with the call....

I was really impressed with Figgins, kid has a nice stroke....

Bracken Co. (7-13)- Dana Figgins 19, Chelsea Ahrens 10, Tiffany McDowell 8, Tara Kiuwani 8, Haley Ware 6, Brittany Jefferson 3, Katelyn Meyer 2

Nicholas Co. (7-14)- Tiffany Wilson 13, Tara Wilson 11, Brandi Messick 8, Brittnie Sosby 5, Petrea Mitchell 4, Shelby Sosby 2

  4. 51-45 Paris won.....

Game was covered on 90.7 FM The Wind, with yours truly (Johnny Livengood) with the call....

    Scorers:

    Bourbon Co. (2-19)- Wigglesworth 20, McCombs 8, Kenney 4, Sosby 4, Coons 4, J. Rankin 4, Sallee 1

    Paris (6-15)- Dumphord 13, Thomas 9, Yeiser 8, Cosby 8, Walker 7, Crump 6,

  5. I was impressed with Brossart at the Bourbon Tournament just after Christmas....

Hiliary Butsch and Kaitlin Steffen both played well in that tournament, and the players fit Camey Geiman's system well....

I haven't saw Montgomery Co. yet and several other contenders yet, but Brossart will be tough to beat come region play...

  6. Clark goes to 4-2 with a come from behind victory, Bourbon falls to 4-4....

Bourbon was up 10 (42-32) with 1:58 left in the third quarter, but ran out of steam... they played only six girls the entire ballgame...

Bourbon really let one get away, they committed 27 turnovers in the final half plus two overtimes, and in my personal opinion it'll be critical for them to find a rotation of eight before we get later into the season... not many teams can win consistently with only six girls playing minutes....

Leading scorers for GRC were Jewel Rogers with 14 points and Preshia Rogers with 13...

For Bourbon, Ivy Livengood (no relation :p ) had 21 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 blocks, Molly Norton had 12 points, 17 rebounds, and 3 blocks, and Elisabeth Stamper had 14 points and 5 blocks....

This game was covered on 90.7 FM The Wind, with yours truly with the play by play....

  7. It's a Weekly poll, chime in, I could careless....

    1. Mason County (7-0)-Not really a question right now, saw them in two impressive wins over Lincoln and Bourbon...

    2. George Rogers Clark (5-1)- Saw them in an impressive 66-62 win over South Laurel... enjoy watching Knowles play...

    3. Bishop Brossart (6-0)- Cooper is a monster inside, haven't been in a game decided by less than 10 points yet...

    4. Montgomery County (5-1)- Jury is still somewhat out because they haven't beat anyone that stands out yet, but Rison can flat coach and Utterback is a nice player....

    5. Campbell County (4-1)- Saw them Friday Night demolish a young Bourbon team, they have decent height as well...

    6. Scott (3-3)- Probably better than Campbell overall, but a couple close losses (granted to quality opponents) move them down one, haven't got to see them play yet...

    7. Harrison County (3-2)- Typical Harrison County over the years, they are either really impresive and lay an egg (losses to Scott and Brossart aren't the end of the world however)... they'll need to find consistency if they want to improve as the season goes on....

    8. Silver Grove (4-2)- Another team I haven't had the honor of watching, but I was impressed with only an 11 point loss to Brossart and they have won three in a row.... no one really stands out here....

    9. Pendleton County (2-2)- The 38th is a very weak district IMO... if they can mature and learn under Simms they could challenge Harrison...

    10. Bracken County (4-2)- An ugly loss to Deming but they beat other contenders for this spot Augusta and St. Pat....

    Other Notes

It is odd not seeing Bourbon somewhere on the list, but they are very young... Flynn is the right man for that job, give them time, but they gotta take some lumps early before they can get better...

It's early, long way to go, and polls mean nothing... just something fun to look at....

  8. The Camels came out on all cylinders, jumped out early and often and had a 30 point lead at halftime....

At one point in the first half, Campbell kept Bourbon scoreless for over 8 minutes.... Bourbon had all kinds of trouble with the 3-2 (or some call 1-3-1) zone...

I was impressed Brandon Griffin and Jon Verst. Griffin came off the bench and gives them a real spark, and Verst looks like a high IQ type player...

Bourbon was playing without their best player (IMO) tonight in Brandon Coons, and had several others with injuries. The effort that Matt Wigglesworth and Adam Lynch put forth when the game was already decided really impressed head coach Mike Flynn and myself when I interviewed him after the game....

Campbell has St. Pat tommorrow night, Bourbon boys and girls go to South Carolina for a tournament starting next week...

  9. Let's hear em...

Bourbon County Coach Mike Flynn comes off his first win as Colonel coach last Saturday against Harlan, and his young team is led by Brandon Coons and several other contributors....

Campbell County is 2-1 and fresh off a 25 point loss to one of the better teams in the region in Bishop Brossart at home...

If you can't make it to the game, it will be covered on 90.7 FM the Wind, with someone familiar doing play by play...

  10. Harrison improves to 3-0 on the year after beating the Lady Colonels, Bourbon has lost three in a row...

Harrison jumped out to a 13-2 lead, but Bourbon was able to come back and lead by 1 point several times, including once in the second half. However, LaDonna Turley was too much for Bourbon, scoring 23....

Molly Norton was the best player for Bourbon tonight, she had 13 points at halftime and ended up with six boards...

Bourbon's biggest problem is turnovers, Sosby likes to play a slow down defensive type game with this team, and right now they just can't hang onto the basketball... CJ Edwards had 12 turnovers tonight after committing 13 Friday against Dupont Manuel...
