  1. Bourbon has someone doing there games on the radio now? That is great.

I have been doing Bourbon Co. Athletics on radio for over 3 years now, started when I was 19... not bad for a young kid to start on a 10,000 watt radio station... but unfortunately lack of sponsorship has killed the football season for radio this year for both Bourbon Co. and Paris...

this season sponorship fell through at the last minute... I had planned to put the broadcast on the team's website BUT there is not enough space to put all the games on... I have been trying to work out something with the radio station to put games on a delay but it's so deep in the season I doubt it will do any good..

I have covered all but one game so far this year, I honestly believe it would be only right to follow the team through the rest of the season even if the games do not make the air... (it is good to have the games on record for resume purposes, I graduate college this May)...

it's the biggest shame for the kids honestly, I know the station worked hard in sales to get businesses in Paris to buy in but when you cannot get enough sponors to draw even or even lose a slight amount it's not profitable for the station to do the games... kids on both teams work hard and they deserve as much publicity as possible...

It's basically a combo of the teams struggling lately and the economic situation the country is in...

I did visit the radio station earlier this week and we have put a basketball package together for Bourbon Co. and Paris basketball (boys and girls)... sponsorship sells much easier for basketball, and preliminary talks seem to be going good with businesses... I will keep those interested updated on the status the closer we get to basketball season.. knock on wood live basketball games for both schools will go on as scheduled...

  2. Borubon County has improved in just about every single game this year... the thing that absolutely kills them is turnovers and penalties... a long 5 minute drive in the first quarter with no score ended with an interception... down only 14-6 at halftime, Purcell has over 130 yards rushing, the offense had 4 or 5 long drives, they played well overall....

Mason has a nice team and Coach Buchanan is flat out class...

Thompson was a beast... Bourbon has sturggled against the run this year and he took advantage of it...

Bourbon has their biggest game of the year next week... they need a district win...

Nice to see some of my old friends from Mason up in the pressbox tonight as well

  3. Were you on the radio for this one?

not live... I am recording the games... we were working on putting the games on the team website but I dont believe they have enough bandwidth...

It's a shame it's not live this year... the kids work hard and deserve the exposure... plus live is amazingly thrilling... it is good that I am recording my stuff for resume purposes... I would like to try to move into a bigger broadcasting market (TV Anchor, reporter, broadcaster, etc.) once I finish school this year... but it's more of a bad deal for the kids... they put in a ton of hard work and deserve being on a 10,000 watt radio station as much as the basketball players do...

the sponsorship in Paris has been lackluster for football the past couple of years... obviously the economy has alot to do with it but the station has had no problem getting stuff for basketball but they simply cannot sell football for whatever reason...

Having covered every game this year you can see the improvement the kids have made... I wasn't expecting a very close game at all last night (considering the recent history between the teams) but they would have been very much in the game deep in the second half if not for the two touchdown callbacks... down 14-7 midway through the third quarter against a team beat you 62-6 and 57-7 last year is a major improvement...

  4. Officiating was interesting most of the night... I thought both teams had some grips...

Bourbon had two touchdowns called back on holding penalties in the first half... small things like penalities are momentum killers...

Taylor Barnes vs. Deron Hicks was an excellent one on one matchup in the first half... enjoyed watching them go against each other out wide...

Massie is doing a solid job... compare this year's team to 2006 and it's not even close....

Franklin has a fun offense... and the Brown kid on defense is a beast...

Nice to make a few new friends in the Franklin pressbox as well....

  5. Bourbon actually would have won this game by more... had 3 red zone possessions in the first half and did not score on any of them...

Ben Layne had a 66 yard TD reception for Nicholas, while Bourbon scored on a 3 yd. TD catch from Taylor Myers on 4th and goal and on a Taylor Barnes 20 yard run...

Congrats to the Bourbon kids... most of them play very hard every week... good to see them get rewarded for it

  6. Look forward to calling this game... both teams needs a win badly... I thought Bourbon lost a big chance last week, but with three straight home games they certainly need this win...

If Bourbon can get anything going offensively, it would be a huge plus... they need Barnes to get outside the pocket (he didn't seem to have the same burst last week)... the defense was lit up against Estill (not many teams have been good against their rushing attack) but last week put together a solid effort...

I'll go with Montgomery, but Bourbon will play more inspired than they did last week...

  7. Estill is really really good... they attempted 1 pass all night... and had no need to throw the ball... Benedict, Roberts, and Covey are all quality backs... and the freshman had a 61 yard TD run in the last minute of the game... they will atleast match last year's 9 wins...

Bourbon had some good moments, and some bad... I thought they got away from Barnes's running in the second half... he had several really nice scampers in the first quarter... the passing game was non-existent except for a few throws... they were playing without RB Dustin Purcell... but he wouldn't have helped the D-Line... absoultely exhausted at the end of the game... they had a rough time stopping the run but most teams have against Estill the last year...

The score is somewhat deceiving (22-7 throughout much of the 2nd half)... but without a shadow of a doubt Estill had the better team... Bourbon has a legit shot to go to 1-1 next week going into 3 straight home contest...

  8. Hard to compare scores from previous weeks, but I get what you're saying. The hounds weren't as bad as people suspected last week. Bellvue is ranked sixth in the Class A. Paris hasn't been ranked since John McCain was a prisoner at Hanoihilton. I do think that Paris has a chance to be a lot better this year. They tell me Everage is doing a great job. I hate that for my kids who didn't get to experience consistency with coaches while they were there.

That my friend is the line of week...

Paris will hang, but I like Bellevue by a couple touches....

  9. Paris loses Brooks, Hinkson, Davis, Forstyhe, Pacas... but they have the cornerstone and that is Head Coach Terence Brooks... as has been mentioned, aslong as he is there, they will play great defense, and will be tough to beat...

I too am surprised Brooks has not been lured away... but he has deep ties to the Paris program and I do believe he is very happy where he is...

Hinkson is a very solid player... have enjoyed watching and covering her...

  10. Paris had two frosh that were pretty good players. I don't remember their names, but one was a point guard and the other was a 3/4 tweener.

I'm pretty sure they only lose one kid to graduation... they do have some young decent talent, Davi Stanley is the freshman guard who impressed me in games I covered... is it enough to compete with the other three teams in the regions? Very likely not...

Alot of the problem last year was with motivation to be quite honest... if they can keep kids interested, they'll be better next year than the two or three wins they put together last year....

  11. I think he might have been looking to relocate a few months ago.....

I thought Bourbon should have made a serious run at him for the boys job... but also thought the "long standing" rivalry between the two schools would make it hard for him to make the jump... the same kind of applies in the situation.. Harrison and Paris girls have become quite a battle the past 8 or 9 years (dating back to the 37th...) a move to Cynthiana would be viewed with an interested eye within the Paris and Bourbon County Sports Communities...

It would add some new live to the Paris-Harrison rivalry though, and would give us media folk a few things to talk about... :)

There should be some very good names come up for the job... look forward to the hire...

  12. Also look for St Pat. I've heard they are playing very well this summer in some tournaments outside the local area. Coach Douglas will have some

    experience coming back this year.

Interesting point... and I agree... I saw them several times in the Kentucky Bank Holiday Tournament at Bourbon County and liked the way they played...

They lose Beth Nolder, but everyone else returns... Parker, Weber, Chamberlain, and Pfeffer providing senior leadership... I wouldn't be surprised to see them win the 39th....

Brossart should also rebound to have a better year IMO...

  13. It will be Montgomery Counties to win or lose... no doubt about it... they lose Maggie Prewitt, but Lee, Elizabeth Prewitt, Mary Jehik all return from last year's squad...

GRC will also be tough, lost a few quality players and will need a new inside presence but should contend to go deep into the region tournament..

Paris, Bourbon County, and Mason County lost a ton of girls (Litsinger, Chambers, Cline, Norton, Livengood, Davis, Brooks, Fortsythe, Jones, etc)... basically the nucleus of each squad...

The depth of the region will not be as good next year IMO, but I am sure there will be some new faces appear and make the region tournament a halfway competitive one... but the Indians are by far the class...

  14. That kind of change may take some time - it usually has to start at the middle school level.

I agree... but there has been some instances when a kid could have come in and been a pretty solid role player... I remember my senior year at Bourbon (2004-2005) the Colonels were really a complementary big man away from really giving Pendleton Co. a run for the top team in the region... there were several kids that would fit the profile to come in and give Russell a blow at times, but no matter how much Salsman or others urged them to come out... they wouldn't...

But your dead on... your middle school program is as critical as the JV/Freshman... if not more so...

  15. I agree, but with Bordas at age 27 or 28 and LeMaster at age 22 or 23, wouldn't that be one of the youngest coaching staff's in the state? Anybody know for sure?? Should be an exciting brand of basketball back in Bourbon County. I'm not even a Bourbon fan, but I will be very interested to see how this staff does with this team this upcoming year. Maybe they will meet my Camels in the regional tournament. Any chance they can get out of that tough district Play by Play Guy???

Has to be one of the youngest... but that's not necessarily a bad thing... youth likely means they will around for a while... which is exactly what the program needs...

This year... Yes... no one is challenging GRC IMO, but I think Bourbon has a decent enough team to compete with a Montgomery team that lost a large amount of seniors... long term, that is to be determined... there is no doubt Bourbon and Paris will be at some disadvantage with GRC and Montgomery larger schools....

It should be exciting... I look forward to calling the games once again this year on 90.7 FM....
