  1. I believe St. Francis may have been missing some players. They tried to exit the tournament right before Christmas due to injury and some players not available to go but it was too late to get another team and they contractually had to play. However, they seem to have more girls later in the week and improved. I also know that they had one very good athlete who had not played Basketball before and was a Junior. She scored most of their points and they seemed to have a good time.

Overall, they were a very nice group and they played hard. They just seemed a little inexperienced for the other teams.

  2. This is to LaDbb4ever:

I looked at Grant W and L's..and they are confusing. They seem to be beating some teams that you would think they wouldn't and then losing some that from what I have seen they should win. Are they just inconsistent this year or do they have someone that has been out. They really looked good against Carroll.

  3. I am trying to understand the High School Football Eligibility rules.

I understand that a player can only play 4 years at Varsity level but do any of the new change of residence rules effect Football. For example a player plays up in Middle School (Freshman and JV Football) and then decides to go to a different High School, can they play right away?

  4. I was at the game and I did not see anything out of the Grant Coach. Grant really hustled and played good defense. I have watched them play all week and I think this was by far the best effort from them. Carroll was in a major shooting slump and could not seem to sink any of their 3 point shots, Amber Girdy once again, really worked the defense for Carroll and of course Ballinger scored well ( although it really was not her best shooting effort either).

It has been a good week of watching these teams, they all are consistently improving.

  5. There were 3 female officials last night in the NAS tournament. Maybe you have not come up against her yet. She calls mostly in Northern KY. around Grant, W-Town and Walton Area.

The other 2 were great and I thought they did a great job! I agree I hate to see games get out of control. There is no reason for anyone to get hurt and play with unnecessary roughness.

  6. I think that for the most part the Referees that have worked in the 8th Region do a pretty good job.... however, there is always an exception! When she enters the gym everyone knows it is going to be a lopsided called game. The good news is you never know who she will favor.

I watched a game the other night that she ref'd and I found myself cheering for the team she so obviously was calling against and I was not really for either team.

I would like to think that someone reviews her performance and gives her advice but so far she has been really entertaining with some of her calls. My favorite was bear hug...I had to scratch my head on that one.

  7. I appreciate the explaination Ghost but I have a couple of questions. 1. When a ball handler makes a hard cut and gets the defender on her shoulder can the defender put their hands on the ballhandler to slow them down? It seems to me that this gives the defender an advantage. It happens a lot without a call.

    2. When on the free throw line if the team shooting the free throw comes over the back on the rebound is this a player control foul. I saw this in a game this week and the ref ruled it player control and didn't allow the defender to shoot free throws even though they were in the bonus.

  8. I guess time will tell, they are so young you never know how they will perform under pressure. Lowe (Sr.) is still recovering from her ACL and will add more to the team as the year goes on and there is another Soph (Wallace) that had a solid game against WV. There are some others coming up that will contribute as well. Trimble did not show well and did seem to have a bad game. Hopefully they will pull together and do well in their district.
