  1. I'm stuck here at work and I need to feel it. I need the bands, the hot dogs, the burgers, the chili, the beer, the cheerleaders, the mascots, and of course the games.

I love College Football!!! I need College Football!!!! Come on guys, find me some UK pregame. Heck, I'll even watch the Gator pregame, if I have to.

I'm with you Swamprat. This time of year is great with the College World Series just around the corner but nothing compares to College Football.

  2. Going into this Memorial Day weekend, with all of the parades, BBQ's and other celebrations I hope that all can and will take time to remember the brave men and women of our military of the past and present and what they do every day to protect our way of life and freedoms that we all too often take for granted.

Lets especially remember the ones that gave the utimate sacrifice.....their lives for our country.

    Freedom is not free.

Also, if you know a vet, person in our military take the time to tell them thank you for their service.

So..........to all of our BGP members of the military past and present......Thank You :thumb:.

    Great post Oldrambler!!!:thumb:

  3. So do you smack everyone you don't like in the teeth?

    :confused::lol:

In my younger days the answer would be yes. Things have since changed but it's hard to teach an old dog new tricks.:D

  4. Just got a call from the midget and my dad. The midget called one in with his mouth (he purrs better than a real hen) and shot it at 35 yards this morning at 6:30. Dad sprinted out and put a death choke on him. I'm in Lexington and last year when I was in Lexington he shot his first one. Obviously I must be the stumbling block!

They are currently working another bird with the midget doing the persuading!!

Stats: 3/4 in. spurs, 9in. beard, dad estimated it at 20lbs.

    I've created a monster!!!

    :thumb: Nice job!!!!!!

  5. Here's one I hate to even post. Just witnessed a fellow who lives just down the road from me in a residential area, walk up behind our property over to a small farm over the hill. Heard him shoot a rifle, and he came toting a Tom over his back hotfooting it back home. Does no good to call the game warden over it. I have no proof, he'd deny it, and the evidence has more than likely been potted already. Really frosts me. I'd like to give him some country justice. I will tell the landowner, don't know what he'll say. Perhaps he had permission, but I doubt it.[/quote

As you well know, these kind of slobs don't need landowner permission Doc. They think they have the right to do whatever they want. Hunting seasons and regulations are not in their vocabulary. The scenario you described is what gives hunters a bad reputation.

Now that he has been successful in his quest to take a turkey, I'm sure he will soon have the urge to try again. When he does, I hope the local CO is around and gives this guy what he deserves. :irked:

  6. Good luck to all getting to go out. I hope all fills their tag and brings home a great American thunder chicken.

I know of one cvillecat that will be going crazy not being able to get out due to his recent surgery.

Good luck again to all and most of all hunt safe......"all the turkeys ever bred aren't worth one man dead". :thumb:

The main thing is getting out in Gods great outdoors with good friends and family and enjoying the sport of hunting and fishing.

As for me, turkey season is always in when the Bsss bite is getting going good and I haven't found a gobbler yet that would hit my spinnerbait, crankbait or jig. :idunno:

You are 100% right Oldrambler. I thought I was going to go crazy yesterday. It was a bluebird morning. I sat around all day thinking about how many boss gobbler encounters my fellow hunters were having and how much fun I was missing. I'll enjoy this season through their stories while I practice calling until next seasons opener.

Also, the way you throw a spinnerbait I'm sure an old "boss gobbler" would be interested!!

  7. Went out a ridge this morning with the midget and a friend went on the ridge parallel to the one we were on and when the first hen flew down, she and I had a fight. We argued angrily for 15 minutes. I told the midget that she might drag loverboy uphill to us. After about 5 more minutes of our heated exchange, I turned to the midget and said, "she's going the other direction, I hope she takes Bang"....."like I was saying, I hope she takes the Tom over to Richard on the other side":D

22lbs.-11in. beard- 1 1/4in. spurs. I got a good shot of it, I'll post it later.

Except for bagging ol' three toes, there is nothing more exciting than going head to head with the old boss hen. Hopefully, the next encounter will bring different results for your young hunter. :thumb:

  8. Raceland's John-Scott Carver went 9 for 9 yesterday in a double header against Fleming Co. and Russell. 2 Homers, 3 Doubles and 4 Singles, and one walk.

I have said many times that John Scott is one of the best hitters in the state. He can flat out hit a baseball.

I would like to see him get a chance to play baseball while at Georgetown. However, it is tough to be a two sport athlete at the college level.

  9. Will anyone be watching? Country music is by far my favorite and we enjoy all the country awards shows. Any other BGP'ers going to be watching? They will be on Sunday night and a good break for me between the final four, MLB opening day and the NCAA championship game.

Thanks for the reminder Oldrambler. Country music is also my favorite so I will be watching.

  10. Coop. The deck would be like the ultimate treestand as you mentioned but most do not hunt turkey from a treestand. I would suggest that if you allow your son to hunt there are a couple of questions that you think about....

    1. Is he familiar with the weapon he will use and does he understand the importance of gun safety.

    2. Do you know and understand all the game laws that are in place during turkey season.

    3. Am I teaching him the ethical and proper way to become a hunter.

I personally would not allow him to hunt from the deck. I'm not telling you what you should or should not do but it is in my opinion not the proper way to teach him about the great sport of turkey hunting or the values and responsibilities that come with being a hunter.

The most important thing to remember is that this will be your sons first hunt so it is very important to make it one he will remember for a lifetime. To me the killing of a turkey is not the most important factor. Some of my most memorable hunts are ones where I didn't see or hear a turkey. If done the right way, spending time in God's great outdoors and sharing a hunt with family and friends will be something you and your son can remember for a lifetime.

Whatever you decide to do. remember to hunt safely and follow all game laws.

If you have any question just PM me and I will be more than glad to try and answer them if I can.:thumb:

    Hunt Safe!!!

  11. I'm not sure if I will get to hunt this turkey season due to having knee surgery but I had the highlight of my season tonight.

I was visited tonight by Spindoc's son who was accompanied by his grandad whom is a longtime friend of mine. Young spindoc brought me one of my favorite turkey calls. I sat and talked turkey with this young hunter and had the chance to hear him run a turkey call. Let me tell you he is one of the best callers I have heard. Not only is he proficient with a turkey call but I was amazed at his ability to call with is natural voice. The kid is a natural and it is evident that he has a passion for the great sport of turkey hunting. He has what I refer to as "Turkey Fever" and it makes me feel good knowing that the turkey hunting tradition has been passed on.

Hats off to you spindoc for a job well done. Not only is he hooked on hunting but he was one of the most polite and respectful youngsters that I have ever met.

Thanks young man for making my day complete and I hope you bag the biggest Ol' Three Toes of your young hunting career.:thumb:

  12. Congratulations to you and your wife on the birth of your son. I'm glad everything turned out fine.

That is a beautiful baby. Thank goodness he got his looks from momma.:D

I see a new hunting partner in the near future.:thumb:

  13. You got that right! :D

The only problem that cvillecat has in turkey hunting is that with his expert calling he sounds more like a turkey than a turkey:eek:. I'm serious, this man can flat out run a turkey call, any turkey call. Cville, is great to see you feeling better and I had to give you some props there my friend. :thumb:

Thanks Oldrambler, now I have to buy a larger size hat.
