  1. I thought the 8th grader did a excellent job behind the plate. Think you will be hearing some good things from him over the next several years. Good luck to the Colonels from Dixie next year. Errors hurt them tonight but I didn't see anyone hanging their heads.

  2. If anyone looks pars the Raiders they are in for a long night. Don't think Krumps will look very far as his Colonels have gone down twice this season to Ryle. Good luck to all the young men tomorrow night. I know they will all play up to the level they are capable of playing. It should be a great game.

  3. I'll take this as a shot at Coach Krumps, right?

Not really. Krumps is one of the top coaches in KY high school baseball. Don't think he would play that game. Just threw that dig in there for those who seem to think that the reason one kid is playing over another has to be politics not talent. Holocher is a good ball player, but following AJ at that position is hard to replace. Not sure they have anyone with that level of talent, but you never know. They haven't played the first game yet. Same can be said for Blaz and Tierney. At this point everything is total speculation on our part when posting opinions on any team. Coaches see these kids everyday and see things we don't. Are they ever wrong? Sure they are. The library is full of books on atheletes that were told they just didn't have the right stuff and went on to play in the pro's.

  4. I see the Birds doing better than last year. Should have a better than .500 mark with some quality players returning that help beat the likes of Beechwood and Cincy St. X among a few. Actually should of been better than that last year with a couple breaks. They are still having the problem with kids wanting to go on spring break and skip baseball. New rule this year is "play baseball=no spring break" It has to start sometime so why not now. The rebuilding process will just take longer.

Couldn't agree with you more. I know some of the players from that team and they should field a quality team again this year. Nice to hear the coach is taking control.

  5. Well, they beat the team with Tierney, Blajewski(SP) Shriver, and those boys, and CCH will start seniors that did not start last year and sophs, so I say yes, Holy Cross will win the opener. As far as games played later in the year when those guys have more varsith experience, then it might be a diffrent story.

Point well taken. However, those guys would have started varsity for a lot schools in their freshman year. Two of them did start last year and were impact players. Besides that they all play summer ball together. I see your point, however I think they maybe under estimated. But whatever the outcome, it should be a good first game for both teams.

  6. Houlehan was the starting SS Freshman year, SB and P his sophmore yr, starting pitcher his JR year and the backup SS to AJ. Since he was 6-0 with 4 shut outs I don't think he will see any playing time at SS. I think CCH532 has it pretty close with the exception of Blesser being a P only. He will see the most at 1st with Isler being his backup when he is pitching. When Blesser is at 1st Isler will be DH for the pitcher. The SS position right now looks to be their weakest link. Don't think Holocher is the answer. However politics may rear it's ugly head. Bondick would be the answer but he elected to play basketball and drop out of baseball. He is a natural with a cannon for an arm and a nicew stick.

  7. Coc Cath has two senior pitchers that nobody has seen much over the past four years due to injuries. Both are very good. Kester and Pauly. CCH may look throw one of these two early. However Blesser will be the ace and Krumps likes to come out smokin. But trying to guess what Krumps has up his sleeve or his thought process? Good luck!!

  8. Spoke with my source close to the Beeche's. It is doubtfull that he will be ready for the start of the baseball season. Not sure in fact when or if he will return. Pretty bad break. Like NYSPORTSFAN said, very similar to Chris Curley. Besides Elliott not sure how good the younger pitchers are or if they are ready for varsity ball this year. However, good coach in Coach M. I'm sure he will be competitive.

  9. Leave it alone. They keep watering down the title of state champs in other sports. If your the champ you should want to win against the best teams out there. Last year Beechwood had every chance to stand at the top. It wasn"t that they had less talent than anyone in the state. They just lost the last game. It wasn't a pounding, it was just a loss. People just can't except lossing. It's part of life. Get use to it. What's next, classes for student grading so everybody gets straight A's? That way the small schools with less students will be able to better compete in spelling b's. I'm sure that will stop certain schools from recruiting smart kids. Blah Blah Blah

  10. Cov Cath has at least 5 seniors that will start in o7. Popham 3r, Blesser 1st and pitch, Larkin 2nd and catch, Reis Left F, Stein Center, Houlehan ipitching and SS. I would think that right field and SS are the only two open positions that need a starter. All of these players except for Stein started last season. I see Malie at catch and Isler sharing first base with Blesser when Blesser is on the mound. Throw all the talent from the sophmore call and they should be as good or better than last year.

I would have to say that Ryle deserves the #1 nod at the begining of the season with CCH and HC pretty close at 2 and 3. Take your pick. Boone and St Henry should round out the top 5. Either of these teams can explode with the bats.
