  1. The best in my memory from Owsley County is Mike Turner, class of '83. He was just 6'2, but his arm length and hand size were incredible. I kept the scorebook his senior year and kept a record of his dunks. He had 18 game dunks that year, and they were of all variety. His verticle leap was measured at Transy's summer camp at well over 30 inches. And he rarely lost a jump ball tip. Reggie Hanson's brother, Arthur, of Pulaski County, was around 6'7 or 6'8, but Mike never lost a tip to him in the two years they went against one another. He was a quick leaper.

  2. I agree with Augger the problem for the owls is at the point guard position. They can't find no one with the ability to get the ball up the floor and handle the pressure without turning it over. Daniel Neely was the last good guard Owsley had! Also if owsley can't get the ball to Mcintosh and Reed in the middle they are not going to far very well. The Post is the bread and butter right now!

  3. Also, Professor, that really runs the pitch count up. At Lee County, some years ago, I am sure you remember Shawn Little. He was as good a pitching prospect as has been around in the mountains in some time. He was 14th region MVP as a junior and had much interest at the next level. Early in his senior year his arm just went "POP" during a game and his career as a pitcher was over. He played some college ball at Morehead and Cumberland, and some Frontier League ball as an outfielder, but potential was never realized. You just can't be too careful with these young arms, and that is the point I believe you were making earlier about Smith's pitch count. I hope someone is listening to your wise old self!

  4. Lee Co. & Hazard are the teams to beat in the tournament. Owsley Co. is a team that could very well beat both Lee Co. & Hazard. Some other teams to watch out for is Buckhorn & Jackson City. But It looks like it could come down to the 56th district!!!

  5. I don't think the talent level has dropped so much. As the style of play and the way the games are being called. IMO they are not enough fouls being called in the paint area. Lot of banging around in the middle! Also the teams styles of play are total based on d-fense that no one can hardly score anymore. Look at some of the scores in the state tourney.......

  6. Warren Central loses their starting center T.J. Woodard, and a mid-season addition as starter in Quentin Curry, but nothing else. Woodard is the only significant loss from this team. They'll be back.

With Britt, Anderson, & Hood in the mix for Warren Central they will be right behind Scott Co. for the top team coming into next year!

  7. Watch for a very good young team from JUNE BUCHANAN. They will be playing in the 5th/3rd,wymt,and possibly King of the Bluegrass. This is a very young and talented team that could turn the tide for mountains schools. They have Stepp and Cox at guards and big size inside.

Come on June Buchanan will be good next year and could possibly win the 14th but they are not going to be the best team in the state next year.
