I was there when Bowling was throwing in the mid 80's. He could last year also just had a very young team behind him 8th and 9th graders. He was really their only consistent pitcher and hurt his arm last year. Thats why the addition of Smith will really help Owsley's team. Wasn't a Jugs gun it was a police radar gun.
Exactly! Clock him on a Jugs gun, then post his speed. WHy do you think we get so many speeding tickets!

From what I understand, you don't have to play Kentucky teams. The coach actually has input into the schedule.
Correct, from my understanding the coach makes his own schedule. So don't understand the teams going down there and playing KY teams
-
If you see him even paractice and you know the game of baseball, then you would agree that he should definately be on the list. I'm going to even stretch it, and say he probably could be on a list that included the best baseball talent in the State of KY. Robert Smith is a tremendous baseball player.
Wow! A lot of hype to live up too!

Unfortunately, the coach has to take the blame. Everyone knows he was overlooking them.

Will have to take Lee and Estill in the finals with Estill pulling out the win.
Powell lost A LOT last year, all around. Owsley is still young, with the exception of Smith. But with a young new coach could possibly suprise some people this year. Still think it will be a couple of years to build the program back up.

The BEST coach in the region? If you have to single one out it would have to be Gene Combs. For 10 years now they have been great competition in the 14th region. Two regional titles and not to mention he has scared the eventual regional winner in just about every regional tourney he has played in with a student body that is smaller than the schools he has been schooling. Styles can be debated but results are the finished product. He does more with less than anybody in the mountains. He creates players and then doesn't beat them himself.
How has he done the last 2-3 years? He is a great coach, but I am wondering if he had a run of good luck with the regional titles. Because his teams for the past 3 years aren't sticking out to me. Correct me if I am wrong....but I don't think he has even won the district the past 3, falling to Powell.

1. Morgan, Leslie Co.
2. Osborne, Lee Co.
3. Couch, PCC
4. Muncie, Powell Co.
5. T. Smith, KCC
I would go with this list, even though Morgan did not seem very consistent to me last year. But with another year under his belt, he should come out ready and win the region for his Eagles.

Like the list but I think the Smith kid as talented as everyone says he may be must prove himself before joining this list. Laying out of baseball for a year is unlike a lot of other sports. You don't just pick up where you left off. Good player but not on this list. IMO
Agreed. No way should he be on the list. He would not have been on the list last year either. I have only saw him play baseball (personally) about 4 times. Needs a lot of improvements to make this list.
I wish the kid the best!

Powell by 3.
Hard to get the W at Powell.
-
The next really good coach in the 14th will Be Varney at Powell. Very studious and has been a key member of the Hazard coaching staff.
Could be. Not been hearing a lot of great things from Powell County thus far. However, I don't guess you can say that till practice officially begins.

I will take Owsley in close one, by 4. Will be a great game either way. THe bobcats will have to keep there cool or the owls could make it ugly. NOt taking anything away from Lee, but when have they beat the owls "when it counted"?
-
Owsley by 6.
Owls look to be pulling it all together at the right time.
-
Will be a long ride back to Letcher County.
-
Combs has one regional tournaments (2 I think), one for sure. Dean has failed to, yet.
-
Wow!
Wide open

It is the game of the first round but there should be a bunch of good games throughout the whole tournament because there isn't a clear cut dominate team. There will be a few battles before the KING is crowned
I agree MW. No clear cut favorite. Lee and Jackson City are both strong teams who could prevail. But, several others who could also. THis game could take a lot out of both teams.
-
That is true. I am wondering how many went to Jackson City?
-
Will have to go with Hazard by 13.
However; you never know in Booneville. The Owls could be ready to defend the nest again!
-
Any details on the field they will build?
-
You sound surprised. It was at Powell wasn't it?

Powell by 5......hard to win in Stanton.

There was no deception. Only in your suspicious mind.
The deception that was so blatant was when Neeley told me FACE TO FACE BEFORE THE GAME that he was not playing, and the fact that both smith and neeley didn't bring gear into the gym. Don't you agree that's a little deceptive.
??????????????
Do you watch them get off the bus?

What do you think of Coach Combs in baseball.
I think they are 2 DIFFRENT coaching styles there. Coach Combs is a class act.

Doesn't the kid pitch also? Definatly should be on the list anyway for his ability at shortstop.
