  1. Several years ago I said Brooks deserved a chance. And he has delivered. But last night I thought I saw one of his biggest bonehead moves. The last FG. With only 20 seconds remaing, Uk should have run or possibly throw the ball to the Endzone. A turnover or turnover on downs causes MTSU to have to go 90 more or less yards in no more than 15 seconds with no timeouts seems to make more sense to me. When they lined up for the FG I knew what was coming, fortunately we held on.

As one UK player said, this is not the UK of old, and that I give credit to Coach Brooks.

  2. A win is a win. But saying that UK still needs to improve offensively to compete in the SEC. Hartline looked better. It seems after Cobb left the game, they had Hartline doing little to no audibles at the line. It seemed to work for him. He has to have some help from the receiving core. Lyons,Jr was on, and also think they need to utilize the TE more. The other WR's need to do some sole searching. Thought the D looked good except on the long pass plays, but those plays count. The MTSU running backs seemed to kill UK on the pass plays out of the backfield with LB's trying to cover.

Mastay and Trydlacka looked great on punts and Seiber was Seiber, that position needs to be looked at hard.

But a win is a win.

  3. If they are 12-5 in the SEC and 6-7 outside of the SEC, what does that say about the level of the SEC this year?

Not much, when you consider that the out of conference schedule was at the beginning of the year for a team with a new coach teaching players a new system with not a full playing deck. Although this team still doesn't have a complete compliment of players it has, at least, learned the new system and came together as a team in the second half of the season.

  4. ....:thumb: Rankings of any athlete, is subjective and based on varied opinions. A program that can take A± players and have them achieve a C-, is not maintaining the talent or developing talent.

Rankings are a rating of current ability but also, potential. Players are only as good, as the "team" and coaching staff around them. We all would like to have the 5-Star rated player, great arm, exception speed, size, lateral quickness but he has to be infused into a scheme, that will elevate his abilities and the team concept.

UK has elevated their play, give the credit to the coaching staff. Most of these talent, wasn't given high rankings or the top 2-3 on most boards, yet they competed and won in the extremely tough SEC. I'll take players who want to get better, tremendous work ethic and are coachable.

IMO one trait that has been left out of all of the recruiting rankings and blogs, and is one that can rarely be identified is HEART.

  5. I am not a Devil fan, but it is a shame when these two fine kids find the best thing for them is to quit. I believe that has to fall back on the coaching staff. I happened to be at a game earlier when there was a banner that read " All I want for Christmas is a new coach" but to hear the Devil backers they have the best staff in the 16th

Personally, I feel it falls back on the parents. You can teach a kid when he's younger to finish what you start, then when they get older they may make better decisions regarding this.

  6. Great game for the Cats. Hope to believe that Brooks has this program headed upward. Love the job he's done, however, I did question his decision to take the 3 points off the scoreboard late in the first half and try for the TD.

This group of seniors deserve appreciation for what they have contributed to turning this program around.

  7. Anything better than a C is to much. Considering the whole of his career, the resources he has had, and the amount of success he has achieved, it will take quite a bit to convince me that he has been a great coach at UK considering the talent he has in his senior class this year.

I totally disagree. The talent that is in this senior class is a direct result of Brooks' recruiting efforts. The resources at UK have always been above average but the overall talent pool has been below average. You must dismiss your hatred of UK to see the major strides that have been made in this program the last few years. A high B is a well deserving grade.:thumb:

  8. *Peach Bowl. (2.825 million payout)

    *Liberty Bowl. (1.7 million payout)

That is 1.125 million dollar diffrence. No way anyone would rather take a pay cut like that. UK needs to go the the Peach Bowl. It is a bigger more prestigous (sp) bowl and would be a step up from last year and build on last seasons success.

But what is the payout for the Music City Bowl?

  9. It would be nice if all schools could have a game of this magnitude for their Freshman teams. Seems to be alot of build up and pride in this game from the locals, and it gives the younger kinds who probably dont get alot of PT at the varsity level a big stage to showcase their ablilities. I hope one day to be able to come down and watch this game. Congrats Ashland on the win. How long has this game been played?

In the current format: Ashland vs. Russell it has been played since about 1980, but before that the Kiwanis Bowl pitted the two junior highs of Ashland,Coles vs. Putnam and has been played for decades.

  10. If UT can handle UGA like they did...UK SHOULD be able to as well. UT stinks on D and UGA had less than 300 yards total offense (closer to 200 than 300 I think it was). UK will have to stop the run, but UGA can't score with regularity (from what I have seen). So I stand with the statement!

    :fire:

As I said, I hope it's true, especially being at Georgia.
