  1. Well said VBMOM!!!!! :thumb::thumb:

Not to be a total NDA homer :isurrender:, however, what about some love for Andrea Lanham for Coach of the Year? I know she had a lot of talent coming back but I thought she managed it well and I don't think her team lost to a Northern Kentucky school. If you check out NDA's losses this year they are all from nationally ranked teams. Plus, she did coach NDA to wins over Sacred Heart and Mercy. Anyway, hats off to her as well!!!

Coach of the Year, in my opinion, would be someone that really meets and exceeds expectations with his/her team. Maureen Kaiser definitely deserves this award. I think many in Northern KY thought St. H would fall slightly off radar after losing her so many talented kids last year. She really did great things with her team this year. The other Region 9 coach that would come immediately to mind is Beechwood's coach. She made dramatic, positive changes which resulted in a fantastic year for Beechwood after a rough season last year.

  2. If they only lost two starters from a very good team last year, I would think they shouldn't be 0-4 this year. No discredit to Lloyd intended at all, but why was the coaching change made in the first place. According to the KHSAA web site Highlands gave NCC all they wanted last year in the districts.

    The previous coach resigned

  3. Well in 2004, 2005 & 2006 NDA lost and didn't get past N KY to make it to State!!!!

Coaching is truly a thankless job

EXACTLY!! She took a team back to state after a 3 year break. And easy or hard bracket, they still made it to the finals. That's a whole lot farther than they had been the three years when they were at home while SHDHS played in the state tournament.

I rarely (maybe never have) given any opinions on this site but this one I have to weigh in on.....I think what we all need to remember is that Coach Woolf is and has been a great coach in NKY for many years. I have coached against her as well as with her, and she works her team as hard if not harder than any coach in Northern Kentucky. She is still one of the most respected coaches in Northern Kentucky, regardless of whether or not she coaches at NDA.

In my opinion, we should end the discussion now and let her get past the events that have transpired over the last couple weeks. She didn't ask for this decision to be made and she certainly didn't ask to have her coaching questioned by all of us over and over. I understand that people will want to talk about the future of NDA volleyball but maybe we could let the past die on here for a while.

  4. Dude, you need to have some fun. If you hang around these threads long enough, you will discover these get, how do I say it, personal. And not in a bad way. Maybe the comment was meant for someone else. So read, post, and be merry.

It may not come across as memorable for Highlands as none of his kids play for the volleyball team but it was fun for the NCC team

  5. Welcome to the site Birdvb. I can tell you that in no way I am saying that Highlands has not had a great season in their own mind. My point is the fact that NCC coach and team has some goals and her girls are on a mission and will not let her down tonite. That is not trash talking nor is it taking anything away from HHS. It just so happens to be Highlands chance to play tonite, and whoever Tues nite and whoever Wed. :thumb:

I realize there is no trash talking on this thread...I didn't mean to infer that. But what has been common is people already putting NCC in the state tournament. Don't get me wrong, they are a fantastic team. I belive that NCC, HHS and CCHS all have great teams this year. Its also unfortunate that with NCC and HHS both having great seasons, they won't both have the opportunity to move on to Regionals. Let's hope that whoever does go can represent the district well.

  6. Coach Jenny Mertle going for 700 career wins. Needs 5 more to reach goal before she calls it quits and I can assure you that Highlands will not stand in her teams way. GO BREDS!

I just had to comment on this. We all know that a decent amount of trash talking goes on with these boards but please keep in mind that players read this as much as anyone else. The birds have had a great season, one of the best in their history, and to be "assured" that they do not stand a chance to stand in NCC's way is heartbreaking and angering to these young kids. After such a great season, at least give their team the respect of giving them a chance to play the game. GO BIRDS!

  7. Slow start for the Birds last night, looked like they wanted to throw the game away in the first last night. The second two gams weren't even a competition.

While still a good, solid team, Ryle does not look as tough this year as in recent years.

Lloyd is definitely a team to watch out for this year. I think that's a credit to the great coach that they have that has really turned that program around.

  8. Gotta disagree with 4-7 and go like this:

    1. Newport Central Catholic

    2. Notre Dame

    3. St. Henry

    4. Boone

    5. Ryle

    6. Scott

    7. Highlands

    8. Campbell County

    9. Simon Kenton

    10. Lloyd

Boone gonna have a great year, very experienced. Scott beat CC finished silver at Apollo. Yeah, Highlands place 5th in gold but who had the easiest first round pools? I am not sure. Highlands fell to Logan Cty? Not sure I ever heard of them?

Lloyd beat SK so almost a toss up, but confident SK should have the better overall club. They meet in first round of Sept Slam at Scott next month.

Should be interesting....Highlands returns all 6 starters and beat Scott at least twice last year. They also meet in the first round of the September Slam. Should be an interesting year for 4-10...should see a lot of fluctuation

  9. Volleyball

    1. Newport Central Catholic

    2. Notre Dame

    3. St. Henry

    4. Boone County

    5. Campbell County

    6. Ryle

    7. Scott

    8. Highlands

    9. Lloyd

    10. Simon Kenton

    What do you think?

I would place Highlands above Scott. They played in the same tournament last weekend at Apollo and Highlands finished 5th place in the gold division with Scott winning the silver division.

  10. Not only has the HHS coach won back to back state championships, she also boasts coach of the year. While many people may not agree with coaching decisions, all coaches put players on the field that they believe will help them win the game, regardless of how often they have played prior to that moment. Good Job Coach Kearns!!

  11. South Laurel is not only 33-0 but has only lost two games all year. However, their schedule is very soft. I will put them just out of the top ten at #11

    Henry Clay

    Ryle

    Manual

    Campbell County

    Beechwood

    Ballard

    Boone County

    South Oldham

    Tates Creek

    Paul Dunbar

    South Laurel

I would have to slightly disagree only because Boone has been very strong and that includes beating Ryle in a two game match. They did lose to CCHS but I would have to put them above Beechwood, they did beat them. Beechwood has also lost to Highlands twice this season so I wouldn't put them that high either.
