Probably the majority of the regions.

One option would be to allow the regional winner and runner-up to attend the tournament.  That would increase the field to 32 teams with a draw format.  No way that anyone should want to have the format set up like the current football playoffs.  There are too many classes in football and should only be the top teams in their districts with the possibility of a wild card for a few teams.

Hazard is another team moving away from the matte color look (I've never really cared for matte helmets, on the whole). They're switching from matte black and a gold 'H' on both sides, to gold lids with a navy 'H' on one side and navy script "Hazard" on the opposite side.

I like that look of two different logos. Newport mid 80's had NHS on one side and Cats on the other. Nice balance look.

If any change was to occur I think it would hinge on a move to classification. I see no need to change it. If anything I would vote to not have district runner-up go to regional. Four team regional.

Agree 100% - this is an area within the football playoffs that needs to be addressed.  But as far as basketball; I like the Sweet 16.  I was merely curious as to others thoughts about it and overall it looks like we all agree.

If true, it is not surprising.

Very sad to hear about the lack of discipline for Newport football.  This is a major area of concern for them as a school district that needs to address.  Football is suppose to help teach us the values we need to survive in life.

  5. There is no doubt that Newport has talented students within the walls of their school.  But as a coach you have to develop discipline up front in your players and staff.  Once you establish the discipline you can put together a good program.  You also develop team leaders and staff that are going to help enforce the discipline and help with getting others to accept the program you are trying to build.

In the short, Newport had no chance of beating Beechwood.  Why?  Beechwood was more discipline, prepared, and more weapons.  But what could Newport have done to improve themselves - they could have worked on discipline, possibly move people around to see if others were capable of playing those positions and becoming a team leader.

I understand that numbers are a big plus for any team but when you have discipline issues, others do not want to be a part of your team.  Kids want structure; they may not ask for it directly but they appreciate you more when you are providing structure, discipline and making them better.  Those are things you remember after you have finished your playing days.

  6. Mullins is a discipline issue. This kid has talent but no discipline. Left Holmes because of discipline. Some how manages to transfer to the open arms of Newport. He gets into more discipline issues with Newport at a game in Ashland. Gets removed by Snapp from the team. Newport then brings him back to the team. Big mistake! To top all of that, you have Covington and Hollis getting discipline in school about a week ago. Newport has Snapp and Davis, that are great young men trying to hold the team together. But when you have more than one discipline problem on the team, good young men like Snapp and Davis can only produce so much.
