  1. BLUTO, watch out what you ask for in your deductive reasoning. In the playoffs, all bets are off. Example to think about: Highlands beat South Oldham by 1 and two weeks later a very good Franklin Cty team beat them by like 30. So as your reasoning comes to these examples, one would think Franklin wins big vs. Highlands. News flash, its the playoffs and no tommorow for the loser. Highlands wins big.

I know LCA is a very good program, but the fact that NCC or Beechwood has been in the finals I think 13 of the last 14 years has some merit. Good luck Breds.

  2. Playing a tough schedule and peaking at the right time are keys. I have seen mant a team improve through the season to be at the top of their game come the playoffs. This year, IMO CCHS is not peaking and it has cost them. Look at some of the teams still playing and this can be said. LCA, Boone, John Hardin are a few to mention. The Birds took some lumps early and the young players that we have are now playing like the experienced players. That is what you work for.

  3. For those of you who'd think Highlands will be overlooking a Solid Franklin County team are sadly mistaken. Friday night is another game that Every Young boy in Ft Thomas dreams of playing in before the entire town. There's a reminder that Hangs in the locker room reminding them of the 16 Highlands teams who have won that ultimate prize. It is a feeling that's is unexplainable to the normal person. It's pride, it's dedication, it's respect that every person in that stadium will give when Highlands takes the field. I've been there and there is no feeling like the one when you walk down that hallway when all eyes are on you. Each and every Highlands player knows what is expected of them when running onto that field. Yes, that field!!!! the one that holds probably the most famed history than any other field in the State of Kentucky. Some say that Highlands players talk a big game and sometimes maybe seem a little overconfident. I say it's that young boy living his childhood dream. I've had people ask me what's it like to play for Highlands, what's it feel like. My reply to them, Wouldn't you like to know!!!!!!!!!!! Good luck to Franklin County on Friday night and hope you have a safe trip. Go Birds!!!

BOOM great post. That sums up the main thing that so many Highlands faithful have been trying to point out all week. NO Tradition will not win the game for you, but it will give you the advantage to pull something from deep down inside when it is needed. Many of the faithful know of our tradition and what it means. Our tradition becomes our "12th Man" , from the off season dedication, to the day to day preparation for gameday, to the spirit we get from the cannon and last but not least to the Pride, excuse me the BLUEBIRD PRIDE in our progam. All this starts at a young age and carries on through generation after generation. Earlier in the year a post was asked of grandfathers, fathers and their sons now playing this year for the Birds. I think we have about a dozen or so. This is tradition. Go Birds.

  4. To go 8-3 with 9 of your 10 opponents making the playoffs is impressive. Is the Highlands team young? I know they have a senior at quarterback. Who is the future at that position for Highlands? Also, how young is their defense?

Strong, yes they are a young team. 4 o-line guys are juniors, 1 TE and the TB is a junior as well. On defense we have 4 or 6 starters that are seniors week in and week out. The sophomores really have had an impact on the defense and are really starting to play well now. Early in the year our youth hurt us in big games and execution was not what it needed to be, to play those teams. The experience of 10-11 games at the varsity level is really showing up now and at the right time. As for my post on playoff teams I missed one team that got beat and was quickly corrected by a Blue Colonel fan who had nothing better to do at the time, I guess. We played 9 teams that made the playoffs and 6 are remaining. Also, we had scrimmages against Beechwood and Male if that has any impact on getting this team some experience. Go Birds.

  5. Now sweetie, there's no need to over react to some good natured ribbing. Just put the credit card down and slowly back away from the check out counter. Keep your purse where I can see it. Things will be just fine. You're really a great cook and were Phi Beta Kappa in school. But put the credit card down now!

I think we just had a shift in the NATIONAL ECONOMY and Mr Greenspan has taken notice.

  6. LEATHERNECK, nice post on the seniors and the dedication they bring day in and day out.

Lamnuts 54, please show me the attitude you speak of from the Highlands faithful. No one has knocked this team or been outspoken about the matchup. HHS has often been the bad guy on these posts and for the most part, as I see it, alot of the negative posts and the disrespect for others often comes from people who support other teams or multitude of teams. Furthermore, many posts come from those who have seen one or the other play and make their own opinions.

Trust me in the fact that come playoff time, Highlands will take no team lightly.

  7. Ok enough with blaming my cooking for you and LN having "that feeling" about these games. You know maybe Friday night you ate something that someone else made. Just because it was in my house doesn't mean I cooked it. You know Sara Lee and Oscar Meyer stop by once in awhile :creepy:

    Sorry, Henry

Did not want to get on your bad side. By the way the food Friday was wonderful.

  8. LSU ROCK, year in and year out this district changes with schools moving up and down in class. It used to have I think as many as 8, but enrollments at Holmes, Dixie , Connor, Scott and Oldham Cty have made changes. I think next year we add 1 or 2. IMO, Kentucky needs to improve the playoff system and be realistic. Having 70% of your first round games as blowouts points to a need to redefine the system.

As far as our next game with FC, I don't think anyone at HHS has taken this team for granted. The have a great record andplayed some quality teams. As LN had the bout of indigestion about last weeks game with WJ, I have got that uncomfortable feeling this week. I hope that the powers that be put together a great gameplan for this one. Our youth is really starting to come together as a veteran team over the last couple of games, but youth is what it is and the lack of focus can bite you from time to time. Hope Dale gets em ready and my thoughts are put to rest, GO BIRDS.
