I don't think you can blame Mike Flynn all together. I think it is inevitable that you are going to lose players when the emphasis is place on younger kids. I think Flynn believes his best chance to win now and in the future was to center things around Drew McDavid and Matt Thomas and I don't now how you could disagree with him. Therefore, when seniors realize that things are going to be geared toward sophmores and freshman they quit.
I would agree with you if it was our seniors that are quitting. We had three seniors come back and are playing this year. It seems that most of our kids are quitting in their freshman or sophmore seasons. I am not going to talk about Coach Flynn or his coaching style but I have talked to most of the players on the team over the past few weeks and they all say that they don't enjoy basketball at all. Everyone of these players that played football loved the sport and did not want it to end. If we could some of that excitement for basketball I feel we would have better results on the court.

Ashland only lost by 9 despite another poor shooting night. McDavid was 3-11, Thomas 3-9, Williams 1-7, Cannoy 1-5 and Wilcox 4-9. The hustle and the rebounding was thier tonight eventhough you could tell that they were really tired.

I don't know why but after the technical against Ashland for having the wrong number listed for a player in the scorebook and Fairview sank the freethrows on the foul and the technical and then scored on the possession, this cut the 12 point lead to 6 and Ashland wasn't the same team after that.
Congrats to Fairview on a well deserved win and don't worry Tomcat fans we will be ready in March.

Russell may have everyone back but I think it will be 2 to 3 more weeks before they start getting it together. If Owens and Co. are stroking it look for Boyd to win by about 20. If the shooting is off I still think Boyd wins in a close one.

The cats played their best all around game of the year. McDavid and Thomas had their usual good game. Williams stepped up big on the boards with 13. Cannoy was all over the place with 13pts and 9 boards. 2 cats made the all tournament team, McDavid and Thomas. Should have had at least 1 more. I have never seen an all tournament team where the 7th and 8th place team placed 1 each on the team and Simon Kenton the 5th place team placed 2 on the team. I thought there were several other players on the top 3 teams that did more for their team to advance as far as they did in the tournament and was more deserving.

Thomas, McDavid, Williams and Bonner spent alot of this game in foul trouble. Ashland had to get quite a few minutes from from others on the bench. Coleman played quite a few minutes. He did commt a few turnovers late, but got valuable experience in this game which shoud only help if he is needed later. I saw alot of improvement from the cats in this tournament. I expect them to improve even more and put on a nice showing in the AIT.

Congrats to Russell on the win and good luck next week. I always root for the local teams to win unless they are playing my cats.

Congrats to Rock on the victory and good luck during the rest of the playoffs. If Rock plays like they did last night it could be a special season for them.
I want to make a comment on one of the Rock players #4 Burkhart. Not only is he an excellent ballplayer but a classy kid. I noticed twice when Ashland player were injured that he went over to the injured player to check on him. :thumb:
Ashland you had a great year and were fun to watch. Good luck to the seniors the rest of the year and whatever you do after high school.

Awesome catch. Also a great photo by Mr. McReynolds.

I didn't get to see it, (I'm going to get a copy of the tape) but I heard the hit that Adam Cannoy put on a Prestonsburg player was one of the biggest hits ever at Putnam Stadium.
I was right in front of that hit. The Prestonsburg player was on the ground for about 5 minutes. He got up and wobbled with help to the sidelines. The kid never saw it coming.

My prayers are with all three boys and their families. The last I heard this evening the driver was moved to a room. He is in stable condition but still in a coma and has several broken bones. Ian and Trace are going to be OK and are very lucky after looking at the car they were in.
