  1. Great game by the cats. McDavid played his usual game. Wilcox was in the face of Vanhoose all night. Nothing came easy for him. Cannoy completely shut down Blair and had big 3 point play late in the 4th. Williams hit a few shots and was big on the boards. Everyone contributed tonight. This was a big momemtum builder heading into the district tournament next week. KEEP IT GOING CATS.

  2. Ashland better do there stomping now because they are getting worse every year. The kids play as hard as they ever did but they seem to be missing something. I would have never thought that I would see the day that Ashlands future hung on one player. Drew Mcdavid is keeping the whole program afloat. Are the other players just that bad or is just giving one player the freedom to play just apart of the tomcat system? They better hope he doesnt get in foul trouble or the dickie and dirk show will be shut down for the year!!!!

I would have agreed with you had things not changed after the East Carter game. They are playing more as a team now and everyone is getting involved. Drew and Matt are not having to force up shots now. They are finally playing team ball as evident in the current 5 game winning streak.

  3. Great game for the cats. Most of the points were scored inside as Ashland really worked the ball around well. This is 5 wins in a row and they seem to be really playing together and moving the ball around and not forcing many shots. Here is the scoring for the cats. This is all of the stats I could remember.

    McDavid 20

    Cannoy 13

    Thomas 11

    Wilcox 7

    Williams 4

    Bonner 4

    Reliford 2

  4. Good game for the cats. Cannoy had a great game leading the cats with 19 points and 9 boards. McDavid had his usual game with 18 points and 8 boards. Thomas didn't start so that Reliford could start on senior night. Thomas never got involved. He picked up 2 quick fouls and was back on the bench and in the 3rd got his 3rd real quick and had to sit again. Thats 4 wins in a row. Just keep the momemtum going next week.

Pikeville has a young team, but never quit battling even when they got down by 20 early. I look for them to have a good team in a couple of years.

  5. Thomas only had 4 points tonight. He did not shoot very much and concentrated on defense. He can do that more now since it appears we are starting to get more balanced scoring. Cannoy, Wilcox, Williams and Reliford are starting to contribute more and get more involved in the flow of the offense. I just hope that this can continue for the last 3 games and on into the tournament. It appears that the tough early schedule might be payiing off dividends right now. Great win for the cats.

  6. Not true Owens did not leave, Owens has some growing up to do,

still has not grasped the concept of the game.In do time he will

grow up ,not saying this is a bad thing, but needs to learn to use

the other four thats on the floor. That will make him a better ballplayer.

The college was Umass, Owens talked to them after the game, and told them

he played selfish ball and was sorry. This was the assistant coach and Travis

Fords dad. They want him at Umass.Good job Ashland nice win!

I didn't say that owens left. I stated that the recruiter left. Owens was sitting on the far end of the bench for the final 6 minutes of the game. I hope Owens listens to the UMass coaches. He has a nice future ahead of him.

  7. Excellent game by the cats tonite. Ashland moved the ball around very well and did not depend on Thomas and McDavid to do everything. Williams, Cannoy and Wilcox all contributed big tonite. They weren't just standing around watching on offense. I think this took alot of pressure off of Thomas and McDavid and they even played better. I hope this continues for the rest of the season.

  8. What I heard about Owens what that Pratt told him to get the ball inside, but he refused to, and continued shooting 3's. Not sure if thats the truth, but I was told thats what Dickie said on the radio.

I heard the same talk from people on the Boyd side. I heard there was a college recruiter in for the game. I believe they said he was from UTEP. Owens was trying to put on a show and not following the game plan. I also heard after Owens was pulled and didn't return the recruiter got mad and left.

  9. Ashland is always a threat to win the region. They may well be a force by March. It is often posted that their schedule is difficult. Does anyone know the overall records of the teams that Ashland has defeated and the teams that have beaten them? How many top 25 teams have they played? I think that would be interesting information. I am aware of maybe two top 25 opponents but, of course, I could be wrong. Does anyone know the facts?

  10. After watching the Russell Ashland game last Friday, I only saw two players on the floor who were typical "Ashland players" and those were Thomas and McDavid. The other kids would have been sitting the bench in the 80's and 90's and probably. wouldn't have made the team back in the glory years. Today's kids would rather quit and blame someone else for their failures than admit they aren't very good. I have seen this at many, many high schools and it is representative of today's society much more than anything against Flynn or any other high school coach. Sounds like some of the Ashland folks can't handle the fact they are no longer the best thing going in the region.

Ashland has 6 or players that can play basketball. With that said Thomas and McDavid are the 2 best players on the team and are going to score the majority of the points, but when you watch Ashland run its offense these 2 are usually the only ones involved. The other 3 out on the court are usually outside the 3 point line on the wing or baseline doing nothing. I have asked these other players why they aren't setting picks and moving like a good motion offense and they all stated that they are doing what they are supposed to be doing which is watching. I think the others need to get involved in the offense which will then free up McDavid and Thomas for more open looks.
