I think this one is too close to call. Pulaski is probably the favorite because they beat the Black Bears so convincingly in the first game of the year. However, HC has improved tremendously since that game. While many would argue that Bell vs. Knox or Trinity vs. St. X will be the game of the week, I think HC vs. Pulaski will go down to the wire!

No matter who wins, they'll have Highlands waiting for them in the semi-finals. Unfortunately, we all probably know how that game will end...

I don't understand why Marcus McMillan hasn't gotten the ball more this season. He was their best running back last season, and still is, even with a healthy Cody Taylor and Dylan Smith.

I think HC will beat Clay next week and capture the district title. The Black Bears are too physical for Clay County. I'd also like to see HC rest some kids against Bell County, so they can get ready for the playoffs.

Score was 28-28 at the half. The game actually ended 60-42. South kept scoring on big plays from their passing game.

Clay County scored three touchdowns in the first three minutes of the second half. Game was over from there.

JV Hooker of Clay County played outstanding. He had (I think) three receiving touchdowns, and an interception return for a touchdown. He was in a league of his own.

I was surprised to see Kevon Khan playing with the JV team on Sunday. I think it was him. Maybe he's a young senior if it goes by age.

I heard the same thing. I guess South wasn't very competitive in the varsity tournament, so they moved some of their varsity down to the JV team. It's probably not that big of a deal since it is just summer ball, but doesn't seem fair to some of the teams they beat.

I'm not real sure how the district is going to play out this season. Whitley Co. will probably be the favorite again, while Clay Co. will be a contender, also. Letcher Co. will be tough, as well. I would probably put Harlan Co. finishing as the third or fourth seed in the district.

The district is ultra competitive and too close to call. It could really go any way, but I think these four teams will make the playoffs.

Harlan Co. will play Boyle Co. both teams got a "W" today.

The Black Bears beat Boyle Co. to move on to the final eight of the tournament. Harlan Co. will take on Scott Co. Sunday morning at 10:30.

I agree that Central will be a top ten team in 2010.

From what I have heard, sophomore Jeffrey Canady will make the move from wide receiver to tailback, and will get a lot more touches than last season. Canady was a superstar from the start last season, and should be one of the better players in the mountains. The kid is for real.

Junior RB Jonathan Turpin will share some of the carries with Canady, while sophomore QB Jonathan Barger and senior WR Travis Canady will man the passing game.

Junior Cody Diamond will probably be their best lineman on both sides of the ball.

I think, by season's end, Knox Central can be a top five team, if they steadily improve throughout the season. The only bad thing is, while they may end up being one of the better teams in the state, they will probably remain second best in their own district.

The paper was way off. Three interviews were held today that included Combs, Marcum and Parks. My "Wright" post was based on a wild rumor...Turns out he didn't even apply. That's what you get when you listen to clowns. I guess that makes me a clown too.

 

Principal Mike White has the ball in his court now. I'm confident he will pick the coach that is most qualified for the job.

Are you sure these were the only applicants? I heard just last night that Steve Wright would most likely fill the position.

Lynn Camp High School is merging with West Knox Elementary School to form a K-12 school, but that's more in name than anything else. The schools stay as they are, from what I read.

I used to hear that years ago about a high school merger, but Lynn Camp is in a new school, so I don't see them closing it anytime soon.

I heard there is a possibility that the schools could merger, but that it is not likely. I don't even think the Lynn Camp-West Knox merger is definite at this point.

Also for our sake I hope it isn't Bishop.

I don't know if it is anyone, at all. I was told that the player transferring was an all-state running back at Trinity last season, and Bishop was the only name I could find that fit the description.

Personally, I couldn't see this as being true, but you never know what will happen. I would like to find out if there is any truth to this, though.

Amid all the Clay County Boy's Basketball team news, I heard that the Clay County Football team may have a new transfer player - from Louisville Trinity.

The news I heard (at work today) was that Clay County will have a running back from Trinity in their backfield next year. I was told that the player's father had a job transfer to the prison in Manchester, and the son was coming with him.

Supposedly, the player was an all-state running back for the Rocks last season. I looked up the players that made all-state for Trinity in 2009, and only found RB Derek Bishop, who made honorable mention in the Courier-Journal.

The man who told me has a son on the Clay County Football team, but I don't know if he is a reliable source.

Any word about this in the Clay or Louisville areas?

I say Steve Wright. That is what I've been hearing, at least.

With the talent Shelby County has had in the recent years, you would think they would have more people wanting to come there. Parsons was a mediocre hire at best. I'm not sure what they were thinking.

Justice is a great high school player, and an elite talent for the mountains, but he isn't a division one basketball player. He needs to go somewhere like University of the Cumberlands or Union College and have a nice career. I wish him the best, but if he wants to play, he will have to aim lower than a division one program.

I didn't get to go to the Sweet Sixteen this year, and basketball is not what I miss the most - it is the ice cream.

I second the guy that gets one per half. I've been known to do that myself.

I think Knox Central is much improved, but, unfortunately for them, I think South has been playing better, as well.

Outside of Josh Crawford on last season's team, Wilson has been the MVP for the Redhounds.

If you were to take him out of the lineup either of the last two seasons, Corbin wouldn't be half the team they are. The kid can flat out play.

Congrats to the Black Bears. Coach Jones and his team captured the first district title in school history in just the second year of the school's existence.

I disagree. #5 started the jv and varsity game and he can flat fill it up from outside. But when I left early in the 4th quarter, I believe he had only taken 2 outside shots and was 1 for 2. I cannot remember his name but he appeared to be an excellent shooter.

 

I do agree that neither team looked impressive. Both teams missed some easy shots, especially early on in the game. Another thing that hurts Harlan County is their schedule. They have a solid record, but really haven't played many top notch teams.

 

Who is the tall kid who just transferred to Harlan County that started in the post last night?

He is a freshman, and wouldn't "fill it up" in varsity games. He has a nice shot, but JV is a separate world from varsity.

The tall post player from Harlan County is Jecorey Fields. He was playing on a bum ankle, as well, but really had a bad game. He has a ton of potential left in him, although he is a senior. The Green Dragons had him playing point guard, and that wasn't good for him.

Neither team really looked impressive to me.

Harlan County was playing without their best player in Kyle Hogue. In my opinion, the Black Bears win the game if Hogue in playing. He is their only legitimate threat from the outside.

Very impressive outing by the Black Bears who were playing without their best player In Kyle Hogue. Hogue has established himself as one of the better all-around players in the region, and is the clear cut leader for Harlan County.

With the improvement of big man Jecorey Fields, and the tough defense that the Black Bears play, Harlan County could very well be a dark horse for the 13th region. I don't think they are close to being the most talented team in the region, but Coach Jones has them playing great basketball, and they will continue to improve.

13th region is as wide open as it has been in a while, in my opinion. Corbin has to be the favorite at this point, but that doesn't always hold true come the end of February, first of March.
